Antique Edwardian Moonstone & Diamond Ring, c1910. This very pretty antique flowerhead cluster ring is set with an oval cabochon moonstone displaying a soft blue adularescence, within a surround of old cut diamonds. Delicate and beautifully proportioned, the ring displays the refined character typical of early 20th century jewellery.

Moonstone: 13 x 8.3mm approximately

Diamonds: 14 = 0.90 carat, total estimated weight. G/H/I colour, VS/SI clarity.

Here is a quick pocket history of Opal courtesy of the GIA.
And we note:
While Australia is best known for opals, it is not generally known that the gemstone was first mined commercially in Slovakia, where precious opal deposits supplied European jewellers and royalty for centuries before the discovery of Australia's famous opal fields.

Precious opal was discovered near White Cliffs in 1884.
Lightning Ridge became famous for black opal from the early 1900s.
Coober Pedy was discovered in 1915 and grew into the world's best-known opal mining town.
Queensland opal was first discovered at Listowel Downs near Blackall in 1869

Today, Australia produces the vast majority of the world's precious opal.
