This is not a time for politics, prejudice or agendas. This is a time for community.

Terror is terror, no matter who inflicts it. There are good and bad people in this world from every colour, background, gender and identity. No one is perfect but there is never an excuse to kill innocent people.

I remember when I was 15 witnessing the horror of the Port Arthur massacre on TV. That tragic event shook our country to the core and gun reform soon followed. Now almost thirty years later, mass terror has once again rocked our shores.

In Australia we are lucky as this kind of terrorism is not commonplace. Relatively speaking we are a fairly safe country with a lifestyle that is often envied by others. But atrocities such as these are sadly all too common across more troubled parts of the world. Senseless violence strikes over and over again with seemingly no end in sight.

We need to treat each other fairly as individual human beings with thoughts and feelings, not paint with broad strokes of ignorance and hatred.

United we stand, divided we fall is a message for all people across the world. Embrace each other with love, especially now.

We have the power to make this world a more peaceful place, together.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims of this tragic event, particularly the Jewish Community in Australia.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in Australia ❤️

Wow…and just like that, Birdee & Star turns 10!!! ✨

As I’m preparing for my next market, I decided to share an image from my first ever market! It was the first Etsy Made Local at Brisbane City Hall. It was a hot, QLD day and there were lines of people outside waiting to discover the treasure trove of handmade goodies within.

I had zero real market experience and I was anxiously setting up my colourful display of handmade brooches, earrings, necklaces, hair accessories and dreamcatchers. As the doors opened and people flooded in, I held my breath as I hoped they would like what I had to offer. All of my blood, sweat and tears leading up this event had to be worth it. Once my first sale went through, the rest as they say, was history.

I have to thank all of the incredible customers, fellow creatives, friends, family and event organisers for their phenomenal opportunities and support over the years. It has certainly been a wonderful ride with lots of highs and lows. My brand has endured the struggles of motherhood, mental illness, global pandemic, breast cancer, economic downturn, selling my family home and divorce. I often refer to Birdee & Star as my third child as it’s as much a part of me in many ways.

Despite the challenges and set backs, it has been a beacon of hope and creative expression that I’ve always adored. I pour my heart and soul into everything I do and I never stop moving forward.

I feel like I’ve finally entered a new era where I can fully embrace who I am and the journey I’ve experienced. I’ll be transforming my brand identity to better reflect who I am not only as a designer, but as a person too.

I’m so happy to have returned to making and will be attending The Earring Market for my fourth year on Friday! Over two wonderful days Birdee & Star will be in the company of talented creatives for two days of beautiful handmade jewels. Come and find us at:

Much like myself, Birdee & Star has been undergoing change.

My brand is ten years old this year and it’s no better time to start afresh!

I will be attending The Earring Market again in October and that will be the debut of what is to come.

What can you expect? In some ways it will be the same, but in essence it will reflect greater authenticity, creativity and strength.

My life has completely changed over the past decade and my brand will reflect this. Growth comes from change and that leads to endless possibilities.

More shall be revealed over the coming weeks!
