Turning inherited diamonds into an engagement ring sounds meaningful… until you realise how easy it is to get wrong.

Too traditional and it feels dated.
Too modern and the sentiment disappears.

J brought in diamonds from his mother and grandmother with one goal, to carry their story forward without losing a sense of E’s style.

The challenge was knowing where to stop.

Together we landed on a 2ct oval diamond sitting centre, framed by round brilliant shoulder stones and set to sit flush with her future wedding band.

The result is a modern heirloom, built from previous generations, designed for the generations to come.

Designed and handcrafted in-house at our Melbourne boutique.

Most solitaires look the same. Alex wanted to make sure his didn’t.

And when our own jeweller, Callum, tells his friends to come see us, the pressure is on.

Alex loved our classic “Gabriella” design, but wanted a distinct, modern edge. So, Marc and him decided to turn the silhouette completely on its head.

The result is this bespoke, east-west piece. By rotating the 1.22ct radiant-cut diamond 90 degrees, it completely alters the proportions on the hand. We crafted it in rich 18ct yellow gold, setting the stone as low as possible on a finely pinched band to keep the focus entirely on the diamond.

It is architectural, clean, and completely unpredictable.

12 years together, a dream trip to Japan, and a secret mission involving the best friend.

When Dan came into our showroom, he had a major dilemma: oval or pear?

Because his partner, Molly, is a content creator, her hands are constantly on camera. The ring needed to be high-impact, timeless, and durable enough to handle her daily filming.

Dan knew he wanted a substantial diamond set into a classic yellow gold cathedral setting. But to nail the exact details, he had to enlist their mutual friend, Rachel. The story goes that a few years ago, over a few wines, Rachel and Molly had actually sized up their fingers with an at-home kit as a hint - "for the boys to use in the future!"

Dan remembered, tracked down the info, and the ultimate goal was set: sourcing a spectacular stone that delivers maximum brilliance on screen, while ensuring it was finished in time so Dan had one less thing to worry about. He was busy planning an unforgettable proposal!

Rachel came through, the choice was made, and our workshop went straight to work to get this ready in time for their flight.

Not every engagement ring is meant to look delicate. Some are meant to feel solid the second you put them on.

That was the whole direction behind this piece. Instead of using traditional claws, we wrapped the 2ct oval in a full 18ct yellow gold bezel to give it a stronger, more grounded feel on the hand.

And it changed the entire personality of the ring.

The diamond feels bolder, the profile feels cleaner, and the gold gives it this weighty look that you just don’t get from finer settings.

It also makes a lot of sense for everyday wear. No sharp claws, no snagging, just a really secure setting built to last.

Not for everyone, but that’s the point.

A lot of people asking for silver aren’t actually after silver at all. They’re usually after that bright, clean look you associate with white gold.

And that’s where it gets misunderstood.

Because while they can look similar at first glance, they behave very differently over time.

Engagement rings go through a lot of daily wear, and for something you’re wearing every day for years, the metal matters just as much as the stone.

This looks like a standard oval solitaire... until you see it from the side.

Let’s be honest, you see dozens of oval solitaires every day. From the top, this one could easily be mistaken for the same.

But it’s not. And that’s the entire point.

When H came to us, he wanted a clean, gold ring for R, but absolutely refused anything that felt generic. He wanted a ring that felt effortless at first glance, but completely changed character the moment you moved your hand.

So we re-engineered the entire setting.

We didn’t just design the ring. We rebuilt how it sits.

Instead of sitting the diamond low and flat, we lifted the band to open up space underneath. Then we tucked a razor-sharp under-halo of twelve micro-diamonds into the base, finished with structural talon prongs holding the 2ct oval diamond above it all.

From the top, it stays quiet. From the side, it transforms.

It’s the difference between a ring that looks nice, and a ring that keeps surprising you long after the moment itself.

That’s usually where the best designs start.

These pieces almost didn’t work on paper.

The sketch looked incredible. But once it reached the bench, it became clear just how difficult it would be to actually bring to life.

9 sculpted petals. A symbolic 5-claw setting. Contrasting finishes that all had to work together without the piece feeling bulky or overworked.

For weeks, the focus was on refining tiny details most people would never notice. Like polishing each outer petal while keeping the inside softly matte to create depth.

This is the side of bespoke jewellery people rarely see: the trial, precision, and problem-solving behind turning an idea into something wearable.
