I've wanted to try the Alpinist on a Milanese bracelet for a long time.

I tried a couple of Omega-style mesh bracelets before, but on my 6.5" wrist they never quite worked. The mesh itself became too stiff and the clasps always felt a bit too chunky.

This one from B&R Bands uses a much slimmer deployant clasp, and it completely changes the experience. Comfortable, flexible, and surprisingly unobtrusive on the wrist.

I wasn't sure whether the polished mesh would suit the green Alpinist, but I think it gives it a slightly different personality without losing what makes the watch special.

Sometimes a simple strap change is enough to make an old favourite feel new again.

One thing this hobby has taught me is that you're always looking for new ways to photograph the same watch.

Today I'm sitting in a waiting room while my car windscreen gets replaced. Most people would scroll their phone.

Instead, I spent the time photographing the SSC813 on a plastic chair and a decorative pot plant.

Sometimes the challenge isn't finding a new watch to photograph. It's finding a new way to photograph the one you already own.

Just world time, five alarms, a 10-year battery, and a design that's somehow cooler now than when it was released.

The Casio Royale remains one of the best values in watch collecting.

It's King's Birthday public holiday here in Australia today.

I'm definitely not a monarchist, but I couldn't ignore the coincidence that I happened to pick the CWC G10 this morning.

First issued to British Forces in 1980, the year I was born, and supplied to the military for more than two decades afterwards until 2008, the G10 is about as pure a military field watch as you'll find.

One detail I've always found interesting is on the caseback. The Broad Arrow, the mark used to denote Crown property, points directly towards the crown of the watch itself. A small detail, but one that always makes me smile.

As usual, it's paired with my favourite custom strap from , made from genuine British military tent material. Fitting company for a watch with this much military history.

After waiting nearly 10 months for the invite, the Helm Miyako has finally arrived.

First impressions? The dial is even better in person.
The textured wave pattern, oversized numerals and incredible lume give it plenty of character, but my favourite detail might be the way Helm carried the same wave motif through to the caseback.

It's a thoughtful touch on a watch that feels far more distinctive than the usual vintage inspired diver.

Worth the wait? Early signs suggest yes.

Still one of my favourite strap pairings in the collection.

The Olive Green Pueblo Leather strap from The Sydney Strap Co. continues to return to the Seiko Alpinist for one simple reason: it just fits the character of the watch perfectly.

New TAWBURY watch box just elevated the entire collection.

There’s something satisfying about opening a watch box and seeing every piece sitting exactly where it belongs: from daily beaters to sentimental favourites, field watches to divers, quartz to mechanical.

What I’ve appreciated most is being able to choose between different pillow sizes. With smaller wrists like mine, it means the watches finally sit naturally instead of being stretched awkwardly around oversized cushions.

The suspended pillow design is another great touch too, keeping every watch sitting level and properly presented across both drawers.

And somehow, the hardest part still remains:
Which one gets wrist time today?

But I guess that’s part of the fun.

Because collecting watches isn’t only about the watches.
The ritual matters too.
