I was asked if I was ‘an artist’ and, as always, I stumbled on the answer. I hummed and hahed and replied ‘well, um, no. Yes. I guess. Not really. I have a degree in visual arts from a million years ago but I don’t actually do art but I own a lot of art supplies. I just never…..…..’ fading to silence. It’s a simple question. It’s not a simple answer.
I don’t know.
‘Yes’ feels like a lie but ‘No’ feels like I’m betraying the place in my brain where the art knowledge comes from. So I guess my answer is something I need to work on. Like art.

Set of gorgeously purple bookbinding guides from a local 3d printing guy. Excellent customer service through the purchasing process. Unfortunately the guides didn’t come with a magic wand to use to tidy up my studio so I could have enough space to actually use them. Oh well. At least I can look at how pretty they are and that might motivate me to create a space.

At the end of 2019 Dreadweezle bought a and, believing it to be a tool that required urgent attention, today I finally unpacked it and forced myself to learn how to use it . Today I cried tears of pure joy.
Decades ago a life changing encounter with the documentary film The Tightrope Dancer.
Years later a moment in time where I stood beside Vali in front of her artworks and took the p**s out of the American tourists as they discussed her work while completely oblivious to the artist standing right before them.
The news of her death tearing a hole in my art world.
No chance of ever being able to afford my own copy of the book I had borrowed from the uni library so many times so many years ago….
Then this arrived today.
A chunk gone from my savings.
A first edition.
It is so precious to me.

I can’t begin to explain how big a gap this fills in my heart.

How have you stomped on your self expression?
How have you stomped on your creativity?
I’ll go first: I hate my fu***ng handwriting so much that even though I want to write every one of my ideas down I can’t bring myself to do it because it won’t look fu***ng amazing and inspirational.
I want to draw and paint and make and build and I can’t even bring myself to pick up a pen because I will judge the result as lacking.
I fu***ng stomp on any possibility of being or doing anything other than nothing.
