🖤 SBS Simply Irresistible 🖤

Some kittens are special from the moment they open their eyes. This little boy is one of them.

SBS Simply Irresistible is a black British Shorthair male who continues to impress me every day. He combines the sweet expression, powerful head, chunky body and plush coat that I strive for in my breeding program.

He is the son of ANCATS Champion Top Gunn Van Het Eigen and the grandson of Irresistible Van Het Eigen, carrying forward generations of outstanding European bloodlines, exceptional type and wonderful temperament.

Don’t worry about his eye colour just yet. He is still very young and, like many British Shorthairs, his eyes are still developing. As he matures, they should deepen into the rich, vivid copper shade that we all know and love in the breed.

Black British Shorthairs are often overlooked in favour of more fashionable colours, but when you look beyond colour and focus on type, balance and expression, it is hard not to appreciate just how special this boy is.

I would love to see him shown and given the opportunity to demonstrate his quality in the show hall, but more importantly, I would love to see him join a family who truly appreciates what an incredible black cat he is.

🏆 Wins in Two Australian States in One Day! 🏆

Today was an extra special day for SBS Cats, with success in two Australian states on the same day.

In Canberra, SBS Sarah Shannon, proudly owned and shown by our good friend Ern Fuller, achieved an incredible result by defeating the entire adult all-breeds competition. To see a cat we bred rise to the very top against such quality competition is an amazing achievement and one we are extremely proud of.

At the same time in Sydney, Top Gunn Van Het Eigen was once again representing SBS Cats in the show hall, continuing the success that has made him one of the most successful British Shorthairs in our breeding program.

To have cats carrying the SBS prefix winning and competing at the highest level in two different states on the same day is something every breeder dreams of. Results like these are a testament to years of careful breeding, dedication, and the support of wonderful owners who continue to showcase our cats.

Congratulations Ern and SBS Sarah Shannon on an outstanding achievement, and congratulations to everyone involved with Top Gunn’s success in Sydney.

A day we won’t forget anytime soon. ❤️🐾

Some friendships are built around a shared love of cats. 🐾

Matt, who owns one of our SBS kittens, stopped by to visit us at the North Richmond Show and couldn’t resist having a cuddle with our imported chocolate stud, Top Gunn van het Eigen.

Top Gunn has a way of winning people over wherever he goes. With his incredible temperament, massive teddy bear head, and those striking copper eyes, it’s easy to see why he’s become such a favourite.

It’s always wonderful catching up with SBS family members and seeing the connections our cats create long after they leave for their new homes.

✨ Meet SBS Simply Irresistible ✨

Named in honour of his grandfather, Irresistible van het Eigen, this stunning young man is my personal pick of the litter.

I’ve long believed that British Shorthairs should be judged first and foremost on type, not colour. While some colours may not always receive the recognition they deserve in the show hall, true quality speaks for itself.

Even at this young age, SBS Simply Irresistible is showing all the qualities I look for in the breed. Beautiful type, excellent bone, a broad head, lovely round eyes, a compact cobby body, and a confident, affectionate temperament. He has that special presence that immediately catches your eye.

I may be biased, but I genuinely believe he is an exceptional example of the British Shorthair breed. He is exactly the kind of cat that reminds me why preserving breed type is so important.

🐾 Owner Update – Lord Earl Grey & Lady Camomile 🐾

Over the past few weeks I’ve been a little quieter than usual on social media. As many of you know, my father passed away suddenly, and it has been a difficult time for our family. I want to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and kind messages.

One of the things that always lifts my spirits is receiving updates from SBS Cats families, and this beautiful message arrived recently ❤️

Lord Earl Grey and Lady Camomile are now enjoying life together in what their owners describe as a perfect mix of calm and chaos. They spend their days chasing each other around the house, taking turns being the hunter and the hunted, before curling up together for a nap in the very same bed.

They groom each other, call out when they find themselves in different parts of the house, sleep together at night, and happily share meals side by side (although it seems Lady Camomile may have claimed a slightly larger share of the food bowl! 😹).

When Lady Camomile first joined the family, there were some understandable concerns about how Earl would adjust to a younger companion. Seeing them now, inseparable and completely devoted to one another, is exactly why we encourage families to consider a second British Shorthair when the timing is right.

As breeders, there is no greater compliment than hearing:

“We are so glad we came back to you for our second British Shorthair. We love them both dearly and our home is now complete.”

Thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos and allowing us to follow their journey. Seeing SBS kittens grow into much-loved family members is what makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Meet Bertie 😍
From a tiny little fluff ball in early February to a big chunky cuddly teddy bear by mid May… just look at that growth 🐾

But honestly, the most beautiful part isn’t how much Bertie has grown — it’s seeing the incredible bond he has formed with his little humans ❤️

This is exactly why we adore the British Shorthair breed so much. Calm, affectionate, patient with children, and becoming true family members from the moment they arrive home.

Thank you so much to Bertie’s family for the gorgeous update photos and for loving him so much. Seeing our babies thriving in their forever homes genuinely means the world to us 🥹

Safe to say… Bertie has completely won their hearts — so much so they’re already talking about finding him a British Shorthair friend 😉💙
