I’ve travelled to Lightning Ridge and Andamooka, been underground in working opal mines and met some of the people who work incredibly hard to bring these beautiful stones into the world. Those experiences have only deepened my love and respect for this iconic Australian gem. There’s something about the way each opal holds its own colours, patterns and surprises that I never tire of. Some of these pieces are available, others were made for their owners. Each is a little reminder of why I keep coming back to opal.” - Marina Antoniou

Many of you know Cesar Cueva through his jewellery and as co-director of Courtesy of the Artist. He is also one of the founding directors of Sevenmarks Gallery in Kiama, where his new exhibition HIDDEN LINES opens this Saturday.

His years spent working with gemstones have shaped a fascination with the worlds held within them. In this new body of work, Cesar uses extreme magnification and photography to excavate those worlds, bringing fractures, inclusions and growth lines into view.

Hundreds of individual captures come together in each artwork, revealing unexpected landscapes and architectural spaces through colour, light and void.

We’re excited to share this side of Cesar’s practice with you and would love you to join us for the opening.
