Inside a watermelon tourmaline slice, every inclusion tells part of the story.

These tiny growth features, fractures and mineral traces formed naturally as the crystal developed, creating a map of its geological journey. Combined with the striking pink and green zoning, they make each slice entirely unique.

In Cesar Cueva photography work, these details become something more than geology. Viewed up close, the stone takes on a painterly quality, with colour, texture and form creating an abstract landscape shaped by time itself.

Detail of a watermelon tourmaline slice by Cesar Cueva. A reminder that some of the most fascinating landscapes exist within the stone itself.

For now, we admire the stone itself. Soon, it will begin its next transformation.

Three pieces by .cueva . Three completely different conversations transformed into form.

The custom process begins in store with Nina. Looking through gemstones, talking through ideas, proportions, textures and the feeling a piece should carry. Some clients arrive with a clear vision. Others begin with a single stone or a feeling they cannot quite explain yet.

From there Cesar develops each piece through sketches, form studies and making by hand. Gold, platinum, diamonds, sapphires, opals and rare gemstones are brought together through a process that is deeply personal and entirely one of a kind.

Every custom piece holds the story of the person it was made for.

To begin your own custom journey, book an appointment with Nina via the link in bio. We would love to show you through our collection of gemstones and explore what is possible.

The Story Behind: The 'Wreath’ is an extraordinary new work by Todd Turner.

Comprised of twenty-five individual elements and an articulated ‘torque’ locking clasp, the neckpiece is entirely handmade in blackened Corinthian bronze with an astonishing 243.23 carats of raw uncut natural Nigerian emeralds.

Both the Wreath and the accompanying Goddess Earrings are also deeply poetic works, rich in symbolism and inspired by Romantic era poetry, Classical Antiquity and even a Renaissance Era painting.

We recently sat down with Todd who shed light on the conceptual and practical journeys that went into making them.

20 years ago, a seed was planted. What began as an experiment down a laneway in Surry Hills, led to the founding of Courtesy of the Artist.

Although jewellery and design are the epicentre of who we are, there’s been so more to the Co_ta journey: the stories, the ideas, the passion…and of course, the people.

And so naturally, we made a mini-film. To not only share our story, but also to commemorate the incredible work produced and to say the biggest ‘thank you’ to this truly special community of creatives, for making this journey — our journey — so special.

To close out the year, we’ve added the film to the link in our bio where you can find and watch it with ease.

Thank you once again to our incredible community for making, sharing and celebrating with us this past year. We wish everyone a happy new year….we look forward to the next 20 years, and see you when we return on 5 Jan 🖤

Geometric and stunning, the visual language of Polish-born, New Zealand-based celebrates the inherent nature of his chosen materials and inspired by place. The latest arrival of his work responds to both manmade and natural wonders of South Island, such as the Purakanui Falls and Wairau river, inviting us to find comfort in and connection with nature. 🍃
