JasperJade Gemstones Two Aussie Gemhunters with a Love and Passion for Fine Australian Sapphires from Central Queensland

20/09/2026

It’s time for Sapphire Sunday and one of our followers had us in stitches over her description to one of our Sapphires being “the Golden Superman-looking one” 😂 and I mean, close enough so this one’s for you Kellie 🙂.

I do enjoy moving around in different areas of the yard to see where the colours start to show the best. One like this tends to hold its colour pretty well no matter what setting you’re in but I do get to see a truly wonderful splash of orange in it while it’s in more of a shaded setting and as I spin around to more of a filtered sunlit setting, you can see the colours start to “pop” as I like to call it with the yellow almost taking over. It’s one of the main things I look for in a collectors piece as it really makes the stone seem like it glows and like the yellow cushion cut before, this Trilliant cut here is an unheated stone, resting at 3.22cts from Central Queensland, we hope you enjoy 🙂

There is so much going on with this one I feel like I don’t know where to put my eyes. In its best light, it glows a canary yellow but held away from the light a bit more and into the shade, some orange and green start to come through and I just think it’s spectacular. This is the same one that has 6 to 8 twinning plane inclusions you’ve probably seen me write in previous posts with the stone and wondered wtf 😂 They are a phenomenon caused by when a Sapphire crystal grows in a repeating, mirrored pattern rather than a single uniform direction and as I turn the stone, you can see what looks like lines “glitching” as I call it, through the centre 🙂 Just goes to prove its very much a natural stone, found a long time ago though from Central Queensland.

I had myself a cleaning day today for a bit of peace. I truly love spending time with the stones and every so often I’ll spend a few hours dipping each one into metho to remove any oil residue from the case or fingerprints, dry them on a paper towel and polish them with a microfibre. I’m only about halfway through as I ran out of time but I did some videos while I was going and come to think of it, is probably why I ran out of time 😂. I guess I’ll have to finish them off tomorrow, oh nooo.

Anyways, these are the three Sapphires from those of you who pointed them out in the comments of my earlier post and from left to right, we have a 2.73ct, 3.77ct and a 1.40ct, all Central Queensland and right where we love them from🥹

Those were some really great choices and i was so glad to see people getting involved! 🙌🏻 More videos of some pretties to come soon 💎😙.

Collecting has always been a major part of my life and always will be. It all actually started with postage stamps as a young boy when I was taught how to lift them off and re-stick them to a book to collect and keep them. Even then and at that age I remember being pretty proud of every stamp I managed not to ruin or rip and checked the mail every day for letters to see if there were any stamps I didn’t have but the obsession randomly changed one day when I discovered what a “crystal” was and that is where the addiction I think seeded.

Over my teenage years as I started in my first two after school jobs and then into adulthood with full time work, the crystal collection grew from generic “crystal shop” and ebay purchases of quartz pieces and amethyst chunks to a then private miner and self collectors. Now I have some really unique pieces safely tucked away with three or four different minerals on them and are anything but generic which is really cool but not many of them are Australian and their labels deteriorated over time so I’m not even sure what’s even what and for some reason, collecting Australian minerals was what I really seemed to enjoy more, problem was, I started to find that moving from house to house every so many years was starting to become more and more of a mission and nightmare after losing the odd piece here and there in the travel (Rest in Pieces Crocoite 😒) so I sort of found myself slowing down on them but this is also where Australian Sapphires came into my life and I very quickly made what I called at the time “the switch”.

Now, It’s always good to remind yourself of just how much progress you’ve made and how much you’ve learned, been taught and grown since compared to just a few years ago when you first started out but also see some things now plain as day that seemed so invisible not so long ago to be able to overcome, laugh the f**k at and move on from and not to mention giving yourself that little internal “well done for getting through the bu****it mate” slap on the back to keep on going but never did I think I’d make a life out of it and let the obsession develop into a straight up raw passion, something I didn’t find within myself with semi precious crystals, i still love them though!

I remember in 2016 when I first stumbled upon what seemed a previously hidden and unknown online world, well, at least to me at the time anyway, full of gem cutters, small claim miners and these damn pretty little things called sapphires and from there on, the addiction heavily exploded again and with renewed, excited energy, exactly what I was looking for, I just had a hell of a lot to learn, some really sh*tty times and an as***le in the shape of an ex to deal with before even making it to the fields but also some seriously lucky stars to thank by making it to at least this part and would I change any of it? Absolutely bloody not…

Although now fine, I had a pretty good health scare in 2019 that prompted the worrying urge to find these “gemfields” I’d been reading about for years and figure it the hell out and try my own luck and what an incredible journey full of mostly ups but sometimes downs it’s so far been! But would I change any of it?
Absolutely.. Bloody… Not…

No where near am I done yet and at 34 years old and four years in, I’m only really getting started with a hell of a lot of digging to still get done in my lifetime until I drop and so much more to learn, plus I get to slave drive Kel a little bit too which is always dangerously fun 😉 but seeing this before me, I know that my own daughter, Kel and everyone I love will have something to remember me bye when that day finally comes and same for her and her kids which is what it’s always been about for me personally and with 5 sockets left to go, it’s onto the next box and eventually the next.

Cheers for reading my Ted Talk, if you made it this far, let me know which one your favourite is! 😂💎

Aaaalrighty, I am sorry for the lack of posting lately, Kelly and I have been on borderline life support the last now week from getting absolutely clapped by the flu after years of never falling sick as we keep rather isolated on our digging adventures. Leaving the house, let alone our bed has not been very viable but I finally find myself at least out in the sun this morning and there’s a fricken cold snap so now I’m trying not to shake 😅. Anywho! cut by the wonderful Joel Phelps from Intrinsic Gems a number of years ago in which we have purchased a few years ago since, I’ve posted this 2.76ct Royal blue unheated beauty a few times in the past before and for those who know me know that this is definitely one of my all time favourite CQLD Sapphires within our collection and is just a really stunning piece of talented work and beauty. When I’m down or having a an effing terrible day, I often find myself spending some time with them all and staring into the colours to help just forget everything, even if it’s just for a wee minute as the colours tend to just take me to another place that I seem to be rather reluctant to want to leave. We hope you enjoy, keep safe this flu season and that everyone scratching and digging around has had a great successful year doing so 💎⛏️

To all of our followers, old and new 💎

Thankyou to all of your support, comments, likes and shares over the last few years, how very humbling it has been to see and be apart of with you all as we endeavour on our journey of finding some beautiful Australian Sapphires💎.

This page has always been about promoting Australian sapphires, particularly from Central Queensland (our favourite), promoting other miners, cutters and the CQLD gemfields itself, not to mention finding a few stones along the way and all of the hard work that goes into it all but sadly, somethings recently hit a bit close to the JasperJade Team and has turned an extremely grieving family’s life now upside down, so, I’ve decided to break posting protocol here and wanted to post this link as the family is struggling beyond comprehension and as parents ourselves, are living our personal worst nightmares. Kelly and I don’t wish for any pressure whatsoever, please don’t feel obliged to do anything but we would insanely appreciate it if you could all share this around as much as you can, as every little bit is counting on this one🕊️

I am Kelly and I am fundraising on the behalf of the family of blayde pettitt FOREVER 13 Blayd… Kelly Smith needs your support for Blayde Pettitt Forever 13

A very welcomed and clean 5.59ct find with some beautiful colours to go with 💎

Well, this is a first for me and I’m all for finding random stuff from the top soil above my wash line but couldn’t it at least have been gold? 😩 I ended up finding another part as well and am curious on whether I’ll find a pendant or locket to go with it now🤔.
