Little wildling playgroup Holistic nature play sessions. Reconnecting children to nature through sensory exploration and play!

14/05/2026

At our sessions, we try our best to avoid saying no! Exploring and mixing stations is a type of play and creativity. As a parent try avoid stepping on and correcting your child and let them experiment and work things out for themselves!

“I’d rather my child play with a fire than an iPad.”
Because one teaches respect, responsibility, resilience and real-world awareness.
The other is designed to hold attention for as long as possible.
Children are meant to climb, explore, scrape knees, assess danger, build confidence and learn through real sensory experiences. Healthy risky play — like using tools, balancing on logs, lighting a supervised fire, getting muddy, exploring nature — helps children develop problem solving skills, emotional regulation, body awareness and independence.
Fire demands presence.
An iPad demands passivity.
When children engage in risky play, their brains are actively assessing:
“Is this safe?”
“How do I do this carefully?”
“What happens if I try again differently?”
These experiences build capable, confident kids.
Excessive screen time, on the other hand, has been linked to attention difficulties, emotional dysregulation, reduced creativity, sleep disruption, lower frustration tolerance and decreased social connection. Fast-paced entertainment conditions children to constantly seek stimulation rather than create it themselves.
A child sitting around a fire is talking, imagining, observing, regulating, connecting and learning.
A child glued to a screen is consuming.
Children don’t need constant entertainment.
They need freedom, boredom, dirt, movement, connection and opportunities to take manageable risks.
Sometimes the most powerful childhood moments come from a stick, a puddle, a spark and the space to explore.

Rainy days at Little Wildling look a little different BUT they are the most fun. We still offer a range of activities to play, create and explore but with the extra opportunity to play and jump in the mud!

So proud of the 6 families who braved the weather today, being exposed to less than ideal weather conditions builds resilience for the later years!
