Often the environment in which we create is not ideal.
A waiting room, the car while our child sleeps, the kitchen table, or maybe even in bed. I am finding that if i can’t get to my amazing studio where everything is set up, embroidery allows me to quiet my mind. Even for a moment in a less than ideal environment when the whirlwind of life is around me I can take a moment to let go, create something with no intention and feel more present once I have had 5/10mins to use my hands, slow things down and stitch a line or two. I wish I had a pocket size screen printing device but for the moment I plan my bigger studio projects and take a moment when I can ❤️👍

I held a PD for a group of teachers from Belmont High School today at Bluebird Foundation | Community Arts Programs | Workshops . In this homely environment the group created some beautiful printed work and will take these skills back to their classrooms for students to explore. 👍👍 If you have a group that would be interested in learning some specific or general Screen Printing skills please send me a message or contact Bluebird Foundation | Community Arts Programs | Workshops ❤️

A stunning long weekend spent journeying to which has been placed in the Grampians/GARIWERD National Park. A dear friend had been wanting to visit and it all fell into place ❤️❤️Wama is a unique precinct combining Art and Nature and it’s definitely worth a visit. 10mins from Halls Gap we enjoyed exploring the Endemic Botanical Gardens and discovering the wild fungus and mushrooms in the surroundings. Such a treat to visit ❤️ And really lovely to bump into ☺️ Small world 🌎

‘A Stich In Time’ was a little project I set myself for the month of May. I planned to do a small embroidery piece every day and record my thoughts on what I was thinking during sewing the pieces. Some were scenes, views, places, people and abstract. Trialing new stitches I had seen online, no pressure, no expectation and just commitment to the actual action. Some pieces worked, I got frustrated when it was taking to long and then I tried to consciously released myself from my own expectation which arose in my head at the time. I have definitely improved my technique, built my ability to let go, find time for something small for myself and also had some interesting conversations with people in public places when I got my little sewing bag out and commenced this daily practice. I will show you over the month a few of the pieces and may also add to the pieces over the current month. This was inspired by .art stitch journaling. To be continued...

‘Threadlines 2’ is open today until Sunday 11-4pm. It’s been a really wonderful experience to exhibit this work alongside a group of very talented textile and fibre artists on the Surf Coast. Pop in and have a look.

In July 2021 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. We had no idea how much the birth of our son would transform our family. I am yet to tell the full and confronting story of the coming years. My struggle with severe mental health, the slow and unpredictable development of our son and the incredible support and love from our family, friends and community that are still getting us through the roller coaster of life. I am forever grateful for the community that surrounds us and for finding my creativity again after a two year break.

Upcycled garments and appliquéd in thread.

This portrait of my son reflects the ongoing process of learning who he is. Each stage of his development has been nurtured with the support of specialists, therapists, and caring hands. Every milestone has been celebrated — reached with patience, hope, and trust that it would come in his own time.
Investigations into genetics, development, and behaviour search for patterns within complexity. Like examining the finest threads of woven fabric, each strand is carefully considered before the whole can be understood. Through this journey has come a quiet letting go of expectation, replaced by acceptance, understanding, and a deep love for the beautiful boy he is becoming.

So nice to visit the show Threadlines 2 - on Saturday and meet alongside my family and friends. It was great to take time to look at all the work and appreciate all the carefully, thoughtfully and consciously stitched pieces. Remy was not so sure about and pieces Gwondana. It was really interesting to hear him commenting what he thought it was, was it muddy? He wanted to touch it but again wasn’t sure. I love the way art makes us think, and question! Reading about the meaning and finding your own. Pop by and have a look Thursday-Sunday 11-4pm. Until 24th of May

My pieces ‘Threadlines 2’ are a very personal exploration of my life. I have never really used art as therapy but it’s very much become a part of my personal reflection and freedom. I find so much joy in trying new trying new techniques, playing with old ones, cutting up work and recreating it. My studio days are will with creative freedom with often no direction or desired outcome…but I like to complete pieces and feel I have put my whole self into whatever I am working on. This portrait piece titled ‘Our Boy’ is a reflection into myself, my family and my son’s journey to where he is now. Remy now 4.5years and every step of his development has been supported and nurtured by us and his support team to meet milestones which we never knew he would make. A journey of learning, patience, frustration, grief and love. ❤️

‘Motherhood’ is a diptych about my experience of motherhood which will be exhibited at 10-24 of May. The show Threadlines opens THIS FRIDAY at 5:30pm. Come along if you are free. I thought I would share my Artist Statement as I am beginning to exhibit my new work and I am excited ❤️ ……………………………………………………………………Ellise Roberts is a Geelong-based textile artist, illustrator, and maker whose practice is grounded in a deep connection to print, pattern, colour, and the natural world. Her love of fabric began in childhood, growing up surrounded by her father’s furniture and interior design business, where textiles and interiors became an early source of inspiration.
After studying Textile Design and Screen Printing at RMIT University, she became increasingly aware of the waste generated by the textile industry. This experience sparked an enduring commitment to working with recycled and reclaimed fabrics — a philosophy that continues to shape her textile portraiture and upcycled garment designs today.

Through layered textures, expressive colour, and repurposed materials, Roberts creates work that celebrates storytelling, sustainability, and the emotional connection we hold with cloth and clothing.

This Friday is the opening of ‘Threadlines’ a show celebrating fibre arts in all its greatness. I will have two works exhibited alongside a collection of other local artists. The show will be open Thursday- Sunday 11-4pm / May 14-24th.
