Monday Blues time! This week I have a worn sapphire oval in need of a little TLC. A bit of cutting down then polishing and voila! All sparkly and showing off it’s beautiful blue with a hint of teal. Isn’t a cutie patootie? ☺️💙

Monday Blues time! This week I have a client’s lapis lazuli slab they wanted me to cut an oval out from where thy marked.

First a bit of slicing, then preforming by hand to get the shape started. Then on the dopstick to make it all nice and regular as well as getting it to the size they wanted. The low dome top has a beveled edge to make it easier and safer to set.

Nice solid blue throughout and it polished very nicely too. What do you think of this signet style cabochon? 💙

Monday Blues time! This week I have a unique sapphire my client had found on a fossicking trip. The inclusions and colour variations in this sapphire give it a real unique look and character. The sort of look that really draws you in for a closer look don’t you think?

Friday Rocks time! This very cute tourmaline pear had a tiny accident next to the point. It wasn’t big and had a more rounded shape than straight side to the point which was very helpful. I was able to adjust the shape a little without loosing much in size so it could still fit its setting. It’s like it never happened!

Sometimes you’re lucky and everything cooperates to repair a little bump with minimal loss of size or weight. This is especially important when it is one of a matching pair of gemstones.

Bonjour 😊 I haven’t done an introduction reel for a while so here is a quick overlook at what I do and where it all happens.
Let me know if there is anything you’d like me to talk about too if you have some gem questions 💎💚

Monday blues time. This week I have a mystery gemstone! My client found this pretty gemstone while traveling and wanted to get it cut into something that could be made into a new piece of jewellery to wear as a memento of her trip.

Icy blue trillion cabochon was the shape that had the best return from the rough. I left the bottom unpolished as it helps keep a bit more colour in a pale gemstone like this one. Not too shabby for something found on the side of a road!

Thank you to the Madeit team for featuring my latest creations! A very pretty pair of rainbow moonstone earrings 🤩

It’s a one of a kind and I can tell you it is not easy to get such a great matching pair. Once they are gone… they are gone.

Friday Rocks time! This week I have a “native cut” citrine that had a very deep and not really practical pavilion (bottom part of the gem).

The first step was to grind down close to the depth needed and then re-facet the pavilion. This gave me a chance to correct the angles to remove the bulky side and have a much better symmetry. The stone was not quite square but as we kept the size and shape as original the facet closest to the girdle (edge of the gem) had to have a little bit of the original facet left over while all the other facets could line up and have regular angles.

Having such a dramatic reduction of the pavilion made it much easier to set in a new piece of jewellery but came with 2 side effects:
1- a slightly lighter colour
2- a window (no light reflection creating a visual hole when looking from the top)

The jeweller had discussed all this prior with his client to make sure it was all ok with them.

If you are considering getting something like this done these are the 2 critical points to make sure you and your client are ok with before any cutting is planned.

Monday Blues time! This week I have for you a much loved sapphire with decades of hard wear and a chip that needed some serious work before going to the next generation but in a smaller format.

After discussing the project with the jeweller we came up with a couple of options for her clients. They decided on slicing it in half to get 2 emerald cut sapphires from it.

I sliced it off and then cut both gems to remove all the wear and chips to end up with 2 brand new emerald cut sapphires ready for the jeweller to create their special new jewellery pieces.

It is not always practical to slice a gemstone in half but was the perfect solution for this project. See, sometimes a split is good! 😅

I just love making this lantern style of dangly earrings! This pair is made with a small black fresh water pearl and an amazonite bead threaded on a fine sterling silver wire and sterling silver wire hook.

I have used a finer wire (0.7mm) for the hook with a small ball melting at the end for the hook for a dainty look.

2 pairs made and ready to post.
