Sapphires aren’t only blue, they come in a rainbow of colours.

The name sapphire comes from the Greek word “sappheiros” that translates to blue stone. Traditionally we only think of sapphires as blue but there is a whole world of colour beyond that.

Purple sapphires can range from deep royal purple to soft lavender, pinks from light pastels to deep magenta, oranges and yellows and the rare sunset toned padparadscha sapphire.

In the last few years Australian sapphires have become highly sought after. They come in a range of shades of greens, blues and yellows with some gems showing all three colours at once.

What a feast for the eyes and the soul. Thank you NGV for a beautifully curated exhibition of Cartier historical pieces.

Taking several hours to walk through the exhibition was so inspiring. The design and craftsmanship were just astonishing. In Australia we rarely get to see jewellery work on this scale and I’m so grateful I was able to see it all. I was the strange woman almost jumping up and down with excitement and telling random fellow exhibition goers what gems and techniques were when they were asking each other what things were.

If love jewellery and haven’t visited it is well worth it if you can make it in the next few weeks!

This stunning pendant looks like a ch*****ne diamond but is in fact a precious ch*****ne zircon!

Framed with ch*****ne diamonds, pink spinels and 2 diamonds that came from a single earring that belonged to Susan’s mother.

Trilogy rings symbolise the past, present, and future held in perfect balance. With such simplicity of design the proportions of the shoulder stones must sit in perfect harmony with the centre stone - highlighting and complimenting, not swamping or detracting.

At Nicole Winkler Jewellery, coloured gemstones take centre stage. A one of a kind teal parti sapphire with soft ch*****ne diamonds. A sunset toned padparadscha sapphire framed by crisp kite cute diamonds. When jewellery has been sitting in a drawer for years, it’s rarely about the metal. It’s about what it means to finally wear it again.

Sharon came to me with a collection of inherited rings, chains and earrings from her mum. Our setter carefully removed the diamonds, rubies and sapphires, and we recycled the gold back into the circular market, its value becoming a credit toward something entirely new.

Her white gold bangle now brings together her mother’s diamonds, rubies and sapphire in a single, balanced design, with one additional sapphire sourced to create harmony across the piece. We finalised the proportions with a 3D printed model before crafting the bangle in our Sydney workshop.

Remodelling isn’t about starting over. It’s about carrying someone forward with you, in a form that speaks to your story and personal style.
