Hand-crafted glass and silver jewelry inspired by light. MELA stands for MELANIE LAPLANTE, the first syllables of the glass artist. It also means in Sanskrit language: to assemble
The basis of the fused glass technique mainly used by MELA to create the shapes and colors of all the pieces she designs in her workshop. MELA is a glass artist for fashion based in Montreal. Since 2007 her work has appe
ared in many collaborations with different designers in Montreal.
-Custom handmade buttons, brooches and ornaments for different designers, perfume bottles, sculptural work just to name a few. Her unique jewellery largely used in photo shoots by stylists in different magazines of Montreal and London, as well as fashion shows during fashion weeks in Montreal, Toronto and Shanghai. Playing with shapes and colors, she fuses different pieces of glass at high temperature to create jewellery that are largely inspired by nature. They are then cold worked by hand to give them a particular finish or texture. With the use of stainless steel, gold-filled and sterling silver hardware she creates little pieces of contemporary art all signed by MELA for the love of fashion. A great addition to any look for a modern touch!
