June has 3 official birthstones including Pearl, Alexandrite and Moonstone. Let’s focus on the Pearl. Pearl is the only semiprecious stone that comes from a living creature. Pearls are created in a mollusk such as an oyster and mussels. When an irritant such as a piece of sand enters the shell, layer after layer of a substance called nacre, creates a pearl. Pearls have come to symbolize purity, wisdom and integrity. They come in many different shapes and colours including white, black, lavender and cream.
