No, this has nothing to do with any three letter acronym group in the USA! 🙅🏻‍♀️

THIS… is Semana Santa in Spain 🇪🇸

A lot of people get worried or concerned when they see the white pointy hats… but don’t worry! This is what the nazarenos (also known as ‘penitentes’) wear, and it’s known as a ‘capirote’.

Penitents wear the capirote so that “attention is not drawn toward themselves as they repent, but towards God”.

So, why does this have a concerning similarity to a certain organisation? Unfortunately, the capirote was appropriated by the group and they gained significant notoriety for it 😬 so much so that many people will immediately think of that group when they see the outfit, rather than the religious brotherhoods who wear it during their Semana Santa parades.

Did you know the history of the capirote?

Semana Santa is coming up! Most towns and cities in Spain will have processions (‘procesiones’) this coming week, so make sure to see one if you can! The music is incredible, and even if you’re not religious they’re truly a sight to see.

So here are 9 of my favourite places that I visited in Japan in 2025, and why you need to add them to your 2026 bucket list 😍

And yes, I did realise while editing this that apparently I have a thing for unique shrines 😂

1️⃣ Nakatsukasa Magotaro Inari, Fukuoka
This is one of the coolest shrines I’ve ever visited! I highly recommend visiting at night so you can see it lit up with neon lights

2️⃣ Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, Takamori
This shrine feels like you’ve entered some mystical world 🤯 but make sure you’ve had a big breakfast, because there’s 270+ steps to the top!

3️⃣ Meigetsu-in, Kamakura
If you’re visiting Japan in summer, you absolutely cannot miss visiting one of the most magical shrines during hydrangea season 🩵

4️⃣ Tōzan Shrine, Arita
Have you even seen a torii gate made out of porcelain? No? Well you need to see this one! This is definitely one of the most unique shrines I’ve been to.

5️⃣ Byōdo-in, Uji
This extensive temple complex is a perfect day trip from Kyoto, and this is a must visit for any matcha lovers as well. (PS: recognise this temple? Check out any 10¥ coin and you’ll see why!)

6️⃣ Glover Garden, Nagasaki
This beautiful park and garden is home to the oldest surviving Western-style house in Japan, the Glover Residence. It’s a must visit in Nagasaki!

7️⃣ Naminoue Shrine, Naha
The ichinomiya (primary shrine) of Okinawa prefecture and one of the eight shrines of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Naminoue Shrine is a must visit when you’re in Okinawa.

8️⃣ Kumamoto Castle Inari Shrine, Kumamoto
Kumamoto Castle is well worth visiting, but most people miss the beautiful Inari shrine right next to it! Make sure you don’t 😁

9️⃣ Kōrakuen, Okayama
One of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, Korakuen was built in 1700 and is incredibly scenic!

So if you’re looking for some amazing places to add to your Japan bucket list in 2026, make sure you add these!

Which would be top of your list? 😍

I can’t believe it’s the new year already 😳 how time flies 😂

We celebrated the arrival of 2026 in Gibraltar’s main square (Casemates), with a lot of rain ☔️ but with a great atmosphere and great fireworks 😁

Here’s to not waiting for ‘someday’ and to just going on the darn trip 🧡🥂

It’s going to be hard to beat 2025’s travel, given that my husband and I spent four whole weeks travelling for our honeymoon 🥹 3.5 weeks exploring more of Japan (including our first time visiting Okinawa and Kyushu, which we fell in love with!) plus a little side trip to Busan in South Korea, where we filmed this clip 😁

For once I have no firm travel plans at all for the next year 😱😱 but there’s definitely the hope of another Japan and/or South Korea trip 😁 and, of course, I’ll continue exploring more of Spain 🇪🇸

Where’s top of your list for 2026 travel? 😍

Have you ever been served a drink that’s LITERALLY on fire? 🔥 well, if you go to this medieval Christmas market in Munich, you can 🤯

Called a Feuerzangenbowle or ‘fire tongs punch’, this flaming beverage is one of the coolest things you can try at a Christmas market 😁 consisting of mulled wine, with a piece of sugarloaf drenched in rum and then SET ON FIRE, you have to add this to your Munich bucket list 😁

This is easily one of the best Christmas markets in Munich and it’s well worth a visit! You can buy a sword (yes, really) and if you time it right (which we didn’t 😭) you can even watch knights in armour duel 🤺🤯

Would you buy a goblet of Glühwein that’s been set alight? 🔥🤭

📍 Mittelalterlicher Weihnachtsmarkt, Wittelsbacherplatz
🗓️ 24th November - 23rd December 2025

Save this for your Munich Christmas market trip!

FYI, the last city is one of the most underrated places for a winter trip (including skiing that won’t break the bank!) 😉 and I bet you won’t guess where it is 🫢

The city of Paris alone gets more tourists in a year than Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania AND Finland… COMBINED. 🤯 that’s a lot of people in just one city!

Hear me out and let me put it another way (that amused me when I saw the data) 🤭 the number of tourists to London in a single year… is the same as the ENTIRE POPULATION of Romania 😳

So, if you’re bored of visiting the same popular cities as everyone else, where everywhere has a waiting list and queues… I’ve got your back 😎

Here are five of my favourite underrated cities that you need to put on your list for 2026 😍

The first one is a personal favourite as it’s the country where my great-grandfather was from 🥰

Which city would be top of your list to visit first?

If you only go on one autumn train journey in Japan, make it this one 😍🍂

This is the most spectacular train journey to do in autumn in Japan 😍 and makes a perfect day trip from Toyama, Kanazawa or Nagano, or even Kyoto or Tokyo!

This railway was originally constructed to transport materials for the construction of the dam on the Kurobe River, located in the northern Japanese Alps in Toyama prefecture 🏔️

It now serves as a passenger railway service and is one of the most beautiful journeys to travel during the autumn season 😍

Starting from Unazukionsen, the train takes you up into the mountains, crossing bridges and travelling through tunnels hewn out the rock of the mountainside. Previously, the route travelled all the way to Keyakidaira, but since the 2024 Noto earthquake the final section between Nekomata and Keyakidaira is currently closed for rebuilding. Hopefully this section will be reopened in 2026, and there’s also a plan to extend the route beyond Keyakidaira and to connect it to the Tateyama Alpine Route 😍

The views from the railway are absolutely incredible, and you won’t be disappointed! Sitting on the right-hand side on the way up gets the best views as you leave Unazukionsen, so try to sit that side if possible! 🤩

We thought we had been so unlucky with the weather as it was raining as we started our journey, but then as we got further into the mountains we got snow instead! So even on a rainy day, the journey doesn’t disappoint 😁

So if you only do one train journey in Japan this autumn… make it the Kurobe Gorge Railway 🚃⛰️🍂

This hidden gem in Spain is an entire village… built inside a castle! 😱🤯

Located in the mountains, with beautiful views on all sides, this small village was built inside the walls of a 12th century Nasrid fortress 😍

This place was actually abandoned by the inhabitants, who moved 10km away in the 20th century to create a ‘new’ town that was much more accessible and less remote. In the 1970s, the castle town was settled by young hippies who revitalised the village and brought it back from decline.

In 2019, the village became part of the ‘Pueblos más bonitos de España’ (most beautiful villages in Spain) and you can see exactly why! 🤍

If you’re looking for a hidden gem in Andalucía to add to your Spain bucket list… make sure to add this village! 😍
