I often get asked if maintaining my weight is easy. The honest answer? No.

If I overdo it on an all-inclusive holiday, I gain weight. If I eat more than my body needs for a period of time, my weight goes up. I'm only human!

What I didn't want was a life of constantly counting calories. I'd end up obsessing over it.

Instead, I've always believed in balance and moderation. Last night, Dan and I went to Giggling Squid for a Thai meal. We enjoyed the food, had what we fancied, and didn't restrict ourselves. But the key is that we don't eat like that every day.

Healthy living isn't about being perfect. It's about the choices you make consistently over time. Enjoying meals out, holidays, and treats can absolutely be part of a healthy lifestyle when they're balanced with good habits the rest of the time.

Everything in moderation.

BBQ time! Healthy burgers - 405 kcals 15.4g fat

Turn a barbecue favourite into a nutritious meal without compromising on taste with our easy healthy burgers

Ingredients

For the burgers
400g lean beef mince (10% fat), preferably organic
5 spring onions , finely chopped
140g finely grated carrot
2 garlic cloves , finely chopped
2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp chopped tarragon
1 medium egg , beaten
4 wholemeal bread rolls, split in half
1½ tsp rapeseed oil , for brushing
25g watercress

For the roasted pepper salsa
2 large red peppers halved lengthways and deseeded
100g cherry or baby plum tomatoes , halved
2 tsp lime juice
2 tsp snipped chives
¼ very small red onion , thinly sliced
pinch crushed chillies
