Today we did a long cruise - 4.5 hours up from Goytre Wharf to Govillon. Our grandson was awesome - leaping from boat to bank like a pro when necessary. However Mr Impatient soon got bored with cruising a 2,stroke 9.8hp outboard at the required 2 miles an hour and was constantly trying to up the anti, causing the engine to cry out in pain or rumble angrily about the mistreatment. I had to keep explaining to him that clogging the spark plugs is not a good idea! He really does not have a clue about engines, hence the death of so many cars, if he kills the boat engine I will send him to Coventry permenently! But I think after this 15 hours the outboard will need a service - just to say sorry!

Hopefully that's it -mooring sorted, insurance sorted, licence sorted ' shortly off to Goytre Wharf to start the task of taking her to Govillon!
After all this computer stuff I need a holiday - hee hee, that's right in under 3 weeks I am off to Vietnam!
Forgive the craziness but I hit 70 a couple of months ago and think I better start getting in all those things I wanted to do before I run out of time

Hopefully as the arm is getting a little better I will be able to start back jewellery making....but for now a leisurely cruise on the canal in dull and drab weather is called for......

Well what a palaver! So before you can get a CRT Trust licence they have to transfer the details of the boat to you - this can't be done on line doh! So phone call to CRT sorted that problem. Then carried on with purchasing the licence, put in the home mooring - no you can not change the home mooring on line either!!! Double doh! Another phone call to CRT, I have to get a continuous cruiser licence then send in my home mooring form via email to CRT after paying for continuous cruising and after one week, maybe longer, they will refund me the extra money! FFS!

I purchased the boat but have to wait for the documents to be sent in the post!!!

I now have a licence as a continuous cruiser which has limits on how many days you can moor in one place. Plus costs more......

Fortunately the Marina have given me the necessary forms so they can be emailed straight across......

But what a stresshead trying to buy a boat and cruise legally

So the boat saga continues - easiest bit has been the mooring. The people in Cambrian Marina have been so accommodating - even charging me my fee pro rata, so that is all done. Insurance wasn't too difficult or too expensive except we went down today to get the serial number from the outboard, filled in the forms, paid in full for the year only to be told we need the hull serial number to identify the boat if we claim. No idea how we find it so sent off the registration number, which does identify the boat. Then tried to pay for the licence to cruise the canal - nightmare - filled in the first part but it point blank refuses to let me fill in the crucial details about the boat! So will have to ring them up tomorrow. I have no idea when the paperwork will be sent to me. But I can't get a licence without a boat safety certificate, a home mooring and insurance and I have all 3 so plain sailing - you think?? The plan tomorrow is sail from Goytre to Govillon, Saturday Govillon to Llangattock, Sunday Llangattock to Llangynidr and Monday Llangynidr to Pencelli - Fingers crossed

So I bought a boat! I live near a wonderful canal, the Brecon and Monmouth, and often see the boats cruising up and down it. So the husband and I decided a boat was a good idea and yesterday we completed the purchase of a Dawncraft Dandy, which is vintage like us lol! Whilst we don't mind the exterior painted as it is in the colours of the Welsh flag we do intend to make many changes internally and I will probably put up some photos on our progress. But here's to a few years, at least, of happy boating.

Happy days - found the 100 grams of casting silver that I mislaid. I had given up all hope, thought it had mistakenly been thrown away with the recycling. The last time I recall seeing it, it was in a padded envelope so that made sense. But today whilst looking for something else I found the casting grains! Very happy

Going to be doing something a bit different in June, attending an Art weekend in the hope of learning something new. It helps to be able to draw up some designs before you start creating in silver or copper. So thanks to Richie Turner Associates Ltd I will be taking part in a fun weekend in beautiful surroundings with 2 talented artists to guide me

The pain of silversmithing! Suffer for your craft they say.....well I am suffering! I already have Trigger finger caused through the repetitive strain of holding and using hammers, files etc., Now I have Golfer's Elbow and I have never played golf (apart from Crazy Golf a few times with the kids) in my life! The pain is excrutiating, like tooth ache in the arm, and constant! A strap worked but then my arm swellled up and my fingers looked like thick sausages! Pain relief gels help for a short period. But at present I am just resting it!
