Under the Hunter’s Moon…

There’s something about a full moon that stirs the imagination. Silver light across the fields, black cats slipping through the shadows, and old stories of wild places and secrets whispered beneath the autumn sky.

This week in our Art Flow sessions, we’re celebrating the Hunter’s Moon with watercolour, English folklore and a little moonlit magic ✨

The Cat Beneath the Hunter’s Moon

They say that on the night of the Hunter’s Moon, a black cat walks the ancient paths, carrying secrets between the worlds.

One autumn evening, a village woman followed its glowing eyes into the woods, where moonlight spilled through the branches like silver.

There, beneath an ancient oak, she discovered something she had long forgotten: the magic of trusting her instincts and listening to the whispers of the wild.

By dawn, the cat had vanished.

But every October, when the Hunter’s Moon rises, two bright eyes appear outside her window 🐈‍⬛

This week, we’ll be bringing a little of that mystery into our paintings, exploring folklore and letting our imaginations wander beneath the autumn moon.

Did you know that in the folklore of South Wales, Friday was known as the fairies’ day?

If the rest of the week had been fair and bright, Friday might bring rain and clouds. If the days had been foul and miserable, Friday might surprise everyone with sunshine. The weather, it was said, was simply at the whim of the fairies.

So, as we step into this rainy Friday, perhaps it’s a day to look a little more closely at the world around us. Notice the patterns in the clouds, the leaves scattered along the path and the tiny wonders we so often hurry past, and if you happen apon a fairy ring on your wanders, admire it from the edge.

Good morning, witchy sisters 🖤

I’m shattered this morning as the hubby is away on business and I never sleep properly when he’s gone! So it’s an 8:30 wake-up and a 9:30 start for me today. Eeek!

Luckily, it’s an ecology report day after yesterday’s visit to an old property looking for signs of bats. 🦇

But first, coffee! My morning ritual starts in bed, catching up on here, planning my day and counting my blessings. My second coffee is either on the bench overlooking the river or snuggled in my art sanctuary, listening to the rain.

These little moments connect me to nature, the changing seasons and the magic in everyday life. 🌿

I feel so grateful to organise my own calendar and honour my natural cycles, energy and ebbs and flows. Some days I’m ready to take on the world, others I need a slower start. Learning to flow with ourselves rather than against ourselves is its own kind of magic. ✨

✨ Last night was something really special. ✨

10 gorgeous souls, a room full of creativity, laughter and connection, and the most beautiful vibe.

I came home feeling so happy and full of gratitude. This is exactly what I want to create with Art Flow, a space where we can come together, get creative, try something new, switch off from the outside world and simply enjoy being ourselves.

Watching these lovely girls settle in, explore their creativity and share the evening together reminds me exactly why I started this.

I’m so grateful to every girl who comes along and makes these evenings what they are. There’s something truly magical about women coming together to create, connect and make a little space for themselves ✨

🍂 Monday 19th October

Today is the feast day of St Frideswide, an Anglo-Saxon princess who, according to legend, refused to marry a powerful prince and chose the freedom of her own path instead.

Her story is entwined with a sacred spring at Binsey, just outside Oxford, where the waters were believed to hold healing powers 🌿✨

There is something magical about these ancient places, the whispered prayers, the sacred springs, and the feeling that the land holds stories and secrets from centuries past. I love discovering the folklore woven into England’s landscape, then letting these tales spark ideas and inspiration for my art 🌙

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Today is St Luke’s Feast Day, and I’ve been exploring a little West Country folklore. There’s an old tradition of foresters making offerings for good fortune, which got me thinking about the old ways and our connection to the land.

Rich took this beautiful photo of the night sky above our cottage in the Cotswolds last night, and it feels like the perfect reminder of the magic that surrounds us 🌙✨

Today, I’m going to make a little offering to the land, giving thanks for all that nature brings us and setting an intention for the months ahead.
