Still clearing up after , it's not all clearance work. This Prunus had the bulk of its windsail removed, was winched back up and staked to live on and grow a new crown once it was firmly anchored again.
We've also been happy to replace quite a few broken fences by planting Cherry Laurel hedges, an excellent replacement as they don't blow over - and they're green!!

With the ever worsening energy crisis it's not surprising that logs are flying out at the moment, this 3 cubic metre load of lovely seasoned Ash going a bit further afield to a valued regular customer.
£110 per cu.m. with free loose tipped delivery within the Vale.

That's the end of week two on our two month contract clearing diseased Ash in Cardiff. We started with the ones over the highway, two months of climbing 60-70' sprawling Ash - yippee......

Another storm, another day of prioritising call outs and pushing the diary back. Lots of customers with trees down, luckily no-one was hurt. When the top 40' of this Western Red Cedar limb snapped out it blocked the driveway with a car on it and the road outside so was cleared to one side and race on to the next one, back next week to tidy up and deal with the less pressing casualties.

Well today we finally finished clearing up after , the weight of the rootplate with rock and earth from this 70' Ash took a 2 tonne tirfor winch to pull back over after severing the stem. A lot of digging too to find some of the limbs!

couldn't catch us! Not one speedline but two and some great work meant that we got the crown of this large Ash removed yesterday as the weather closed in. The speedlines were used like a zipwire to clear the vast expanse of cherry and bay laurel underneath.

Right lads, 8' off the top and gently onto the truck - chip the rest! We were originally asked to remove this Colorado Blue Spruce in February this year but the customer agreed to leave it until December 1st......looks stunning now in the living room!!
A nice break too for five minutes from clearing up after Storm Arwen all week.

11,000 volts and parts of the tree were almost touching it! No job is such that it can't be done safely, so Western Power were called in to shut the supply off for a couple of hours (all free of charge). Sadly another victim of Dutch Elm Disease.
Edit - Facebook cropping photos again - you have to click on it.

Tough cookie, this one! This Wych Elm was one of several lost on one site to Ophiostoma (Dutch Elm Disease), sweeping through hot on the tail of Hymenoscyphus (Ash Dieback) taking most of the Ash.
Sad times.

Mixed fortunes this week as we started a two week clearance contract in Swansea, managed to secure a tip site only a mile from the job that took 48 cubic metres of woodchip in three days, one of the roller bearings went on the chipper but Bearing Suppliers of Clydach had one in stock only two miles down the road and yes, that's a brand new tyre on the trailer that's flat as a pancake (at five o'clock on a Friday afternoon in Clydach!).
We don't usually work this far afield but the site is part of a group which is local and we were highly recommended as usual.

SACRILEGE.....Throwing 8" timber through the chipper when we have to pay thousands of pounds per artic load buying it in to process for logs, but spec is spec and this clearance of dead elms was to be chipped on site. Oh well, at least it's Bank Holiday weekend and we get a desperately needed four days off to recharge.
