Natural or cultured, both pearls are a genuine, organic gem formed by mollusks 🦪
Natural pearls are extremely rare. A Pearl is formed around a microscopic irritant within the body of certain mollusks.
Cultured pearls are the result of the deliberate insertion of an irritant like a piece of tissue that the mollusk coats with nacre, thus kickstarting the same process.
To the naked eye a natural and high-quality cultured pearl look virtually identical.
Pearls come in a variety of colours from the familiar whites and creams, to pink, peach, gold, purple, grey, even blue/green peacock tones.
The colour is primarily determined by the specific mollusk type and the water’s mineral content.
