Make Your Own Textured Silver Ring with Kristina Merchant

Create your own one-of-a-kind sterling silver ring in this relaxed, beginner-friendly jewellery
workshop.

You’ll be introduced to traditional silversmithing techniques including forming, soldering,
hammering, texturing and finishing. Starting with silver wire, you’ll shape and work the
metal by hand to create an organic ring with its own individual marks, texture and
character.

a new menswear concept store based in Perth, where I’m very excited to be one of their new stockists.
I’ve curated a collection of chunky silver pieces inspired by the concrete footprint, exploring rough textures, marks and imperfect surfaces.

Each ring is made to order.

I had the idea of creating a chain using pieces of the bottle cap form. I wanted to abstract the shape, making it more fluid with softer edges, then contrast with little references of barbed wire. Thanks Mark McConnell for trying out the first sample. Think I’ll add some amber next 🔗

I met Layth in Glasgow after we first connected at Goldsmiths' Fair - fine jewellery & contemporary silver, where he spotted my Bottleneck ring. He wanted something similar but with his own twist, so we went for a moss agate set in a wider 9ct yellow gold band. The green stone and gold work really well together. Thanks to for a great hallmarking job too!

I love working with people to create something that feels personal, so this was a really enjoyable one to make. The timing worked out nicely too, as the Bottleneck ring was recently featured in VANITY FAIR.

Something to celebrate 🍻

I’m delighted to have my work featured in the latest VANITY FAIR Jewellery Summer Edition.

“Inspired by her grandmother, who was a pub landlady in Scotland, Kristina Merchant’s work is about everyday culture and the strength of women.”

The featured ring is hand carved quartz, finished with a ribbon of 9ct rose gold, inspired by the curves of a bottle neck.
