Have you heard of a Padparadscha? 🧐

Named after the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom 🪷 These stones range from a deep orangy pink to a much lighter pinkish orange 🍊

This one in particular has a special ‘Je ne sais quoi’ as it also has a shimmer of purple running through it which gives it a one off look.

What is the definition of a Ruby? And what is the definition of a Pink Sapphire? 💓💗

Usually a Ruby is defined by the amount of Chromium within it, making it more red in appearance.❤️♥️

Sometimes we have pinkish looking rubies or Pink Sapphires that have a reddish undertone. ❤️💗

Either way though we think this one is just phenomenal. 🔥It’s high lustre, deep colour and fantastic cut make it an office favourite, and we are putting it in the Pink Sapphire camp. 💕

The clocks have gone back and the sun has come out. 🕰️
From our humble Hatton office on the fourth floor we’re feeling those lighter, longer days. 🌞

So here’s a wee yellow Sapphire to remind us all that that summer is around the corner now and brighter days are coming💛

Ps. This no heat Sapphire comes with a report too!

Geoffrey Williams FGA DGA

It is with immense sadness that Jason and Claire announce the passing of their beloved father, Geoffrey Williams, on 1st March 2026. The founder of G.F. Williams & Co., the renowned Hatton Garden–based gemstone wholesaler, Geoffrey passed away at home with his family after a long fight with Parkinson’s. He was aged 85.

Geoff entered the jewellery trade by chance in the early 1960s. Whilst in London to interview for a large corporation, he spotted an advert whilst browsing in Gamages department store which led to his apprenticeship with A. Sechaud & Co. Studying after work, he graduated as a Gemmologist with distinction in 1962, through the prestigious Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

The arrival of the ‘multiple’ store groups requiring gemstones ‘calibrated’ in large volume changed the business, so Geoff started his own company trading as G.F.Williams. Geoff explored international markets for cutters for these stones; initially driving overnight in his old Mini to Idar-Oberstein in Germany, then in Asia. This spirit of adventure led to longstanding trusted relationships with suppliers in Thailand, India, Colombia and Hong Kong, among others. Many of these businesses still exist today, run by the same trusted family connections Geoff established over 50 years ago.

The trade is always changing and with his skills and gem knowledge G.F.Williams’ move into the luxury end of the market delighted Geoff, his training and acute assessment of gemstone values and his ‘it’s all the tweezers’ mantra (always look carefully at the stones) continued well into his retirement.
A keen supporter of the trade, Geoff served several working groups during his career, including The Gem Testing Laboratory and CIBJO committees, often alongside Harry Levy. Geoff was a keen supporter and valued source of advice for his children.

Geoff leaves his beloved wife Mary, two children, and four granddaughters.

RIP Geoffrey Francis Williams

Pearshapes are often used as accents to a central stone. But when you get a perfect matching set like this it is hard to imagine them apart. ✨

The pear shape cut has been around since the 1400s combining the marquise and a round together to produce this asymmetrical appearance.

The shape has been used throughout history, however took off when Elizabeth Taylor wore the Taylor-Burton diamond and popularised it. 💧

Are you curious about yellow sapphires? 🧐💛

Yellow Sapphires have been on the rise in popularity, perhaps matching the rise in yellow gold jewellery. 👑

It is not a colour that people often think of when of comes to Sapphire. 🔷

When you think of yellow gemstones Citrines, Topaz or Heliordor may spring to mind. But Yellow Sapphires give a great alternative option for a more durable stone. 🟨🟡💛

This Sapphire has no heat, no treatment and come with its own gemstone report. 📝

Yellow Sapphire commonly used to be treated with Beryllium and heat often making them a more intense colour. 🧡🌡️

However if you are after a completely natural stone with no treatment- this may be your stone 💫✨

Rain drops on Rubellite 🌹☔️.

This special type of Tourmaline is a Rubellite. Known for this classic pinkish red colour.

It’s warm tone is enough to warm up any chilly hand.

Tourmalines can come in a range of colours, each having their own specific name, but Rubellite is one of the most well known species!
