We’ve been wanting to make carved and cast bronze boxes for a long time, and the “Vessels: Studies in Form” group show that we will be a part of during LA Design Week/end has presented us with the perfect opportunity for the first one. This design emerged after a visit with artifacts in London, especially a terracotta hare-shaped scent bottle and some nestled bird figures we saw. ✦ SOLD ✦ This sweet fox is a one-of-a-kind totem that we’ve been wanting to make for a while.

I’ve had more than one meaningful encounter with foxes. One such moment was during my way home from graduate school to be with Alex for Christmas. He’d gone home ahead of me to renew his visa, and I was staying overnight with a friend in London on a 12 hour layover.

We enjoyed a cozy night at the festive pubs, drinking mulled w**e and playing games. On our walk home through the quiet streets, we came upon many foxes, quietly gathered in the icy grass. These weren’t disheveled foxes, as one might expect a wild city animal to be. They had beautiful coats, rich with color and health. They didn’t run or hide. They stood or sat, calmly watching us as we made our way back. It felt like they had a wisdom we couldn’t quite fathom, and it’s a feeling that that was brought back immediately when Alex showed me his sketch of this totem.

May she bring that feeling to her new home in the Pacific Northwest ♥
