It’s not nearly often enough that I receive poems when my knives touch down.
From their happy new home:
A Hugo, a chara,
Your knives that arrived here today
Quite honestly took breath away;
The pattern, the line,
The balance so fine—
A joy we’ll be using each day.
The steel has a beautiful flow,
And the warm amber handles both glow;
They’re lovely to see,
But more pleased will we be
When they’re put to good use, don’t you know.
For knives that are useful and grand,
You’ve given us more than we’d planned;
They’re works of true art,
Yet built from the start
To feel right and sure in the hand.
When opening up your fine pair,
We both stopped for a long, grateful stare;
Such beauty and grace
In a practical place—
They’ll brighten the board and the fare.
A craftsman with eye, hand, and nerve
Has made us two blades with real verve;
They’re handsome and keen,
With a wonderful sheen,
And a pleasure to use and preserve.
So thank you, dear Hugo, once more,
For sending such craft to our door;
They’re splendidly made,
A credit to trade,
And ones we’ll enjoy to the core. 💫
