It is with great sadness that my dear father, David Soley, passed away on Sunday 5th July. He was still very involved in the business despite his first stroke, until subsequent episodes curtailed his involvement some years ago. Having taken up the offer to run a workshop above Algernon Asprey on Bruton Street in London’s West End in the early 70’s, he established one of the most revered fine jewellery manufacturers, recruiting some of the leading craftsmen and women of the day. Quickly winning contracts to supply Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels, Garrards and Asprey, by whom he was affectionally know as ‘Soleybugs’ by John Asprey. He travelled the country and overseas to Japan, selling the companies jewellery collections, which were admired for both the uniqueness of their design and quality craftsmanship, which continues to this day.
Their work was recognised by a number of Exhibitions at the Goldsmith Hall, and by the then Basle Fair organisers, who invited him, along side two other British manufacturers, to exhibit in their Prestige Hall.
He is survived by his daughter Amanda, and son, Mark who continues to uphold his father’s and companies ethos and two grand children. He will be greatly missed.
