Meet Jeff Acord: record-breaking aviator, Horizon owner, and the first story in our owner series.

"I always knew I'd end up in the sky. It was in my DNA."

Jeff set a world and national speed record on a single flight, and his certificate is signed by Brigadier General Chuck Yeager. On his wrist is the Horizon, its dial drawn from the RAF sector clocks of the Battle of Britain.

The Horizon takes its name from the line where the sea meets the sky.

Its enamel dial, heated at high temperatures, catches the light and shifts with it, like the Channel on a clear morning. At its heart, a nod to the RAF sector clocks that once guided pilots home over those very waters, and on the caseback, the cliffs of Dover.

Designed and developed in Britain. Assembled and regulated here. A watch for people who like to keep a little history on the wrist.

Some things can't be rushed.

On St James's Street there is a shop that has been making hats since 1676 - recognised as the oldest hat shop in the world. For the first episode of Crafted Through Time, we spent a day there with .

is fitted for a hat, and Ben Dalrymple tells the story of the bowler, of Nelson's bicorn, and of what it takes to keep a craft alive across three and a half centuries - while trading in a thoroughly modern way.

What stayed with us was his sense of stewardship: the idea that the real job is to hand the craft in better shape than you found it. It's a quality we saw in every maker, and one that shapes how we think about our own work.
