Davy Bell and team have been busy replacing cubicle mattresses this week in preparation for the cows coming off grass.

Autumn days at Kirvennie, with beautiful views, cows coming in for milking and heading back out to enjoy some fresh grass.

Not every morning goes quite to plan, though!
At 4.15am, the dairy parlour had a power issue. Thankfully, it was just a rubbed wire, and a big shout-out to Stevie from ATD Electrical for coming to the rescue and getting us back up and running in no time. The girls were milked with barely a delay!

It really does take a village, and we're grateful for the people who help keep things ticking along, whatever the hour!

Farming is all about doing the little things right — especially when it comes to animal health.

This morning, Jo from Machars Veterinary Services Ltd joined us on the farm to spend time with the team discussing the responsible use and correct administration of medicines, including handling and storage.

Keeping everyone up to date helps us use medicines safely and appropriately, with animal health and welfare always front of mind.

A little bit of sunshine before the afternoon rain ☀️ The girls are making the most of every minute of it.

As much as we’ve enjoyed that glorious sunshine, we’re actually pretty happy to see some much-needed rain arriving too. The grass will certainly thank us for it! 🌱🐄

Daily concentrate for the heifer calves… although there’s always one who likes to do things her own way!

The rest are quite happy tucking into the feed dropped onto the grass, while this cheeky girl has worked out that the best place to be is underneath the snacker, helping herself straight from the hopper. 😂

Can’t say she lacks initiative!

What a legend Cow 360 is! 👑

The last remaining cow on the farm from the group we imported from Denmark in 2014, 360 was born in 2013 and is now in her 12th lactation — and in-calf again for 2027.

She’s a brilliant example of what a great grass-based dairy cow should be: hardy, healthy, sound and fertile, with the ability to keep producing year after year.

She’s been a familiar face around the farm for so many years and it’s fantastic to see her still thriving and doing what she does best.

What a girl! 🐄
