Last few days here in Florence in the workshop before heading back to the UK team. My head & heart are full. As is my tummy.
Ancient methods, smarter ways of working, new ideas, some really beautiful makers with skills they have been happy to freely share in my lessons. I couldnt have asked for more. Ive been working on these little Apatite stones which will be making an appearance next month once the wax settings have come back in sterling & gold from casting. They are super pretty once set and will be one offs so keep an eye out here for the drop. Off for aperitivo's now, last day tomorrow in class before home.

Hand push engraving is not for the faint hearted. This is the second course ive taken under John cook and ive finished today with more confidence and some decent results. We unpacked how letters are structured from top to bottom & everything in between, making & sharpening different engravers, endless measuring, beautiful initials and the realisation that calligraphy really is everywhere. Much frustration along the way but as with ALL good things...practice practice practice. This ancient skill is so beautiful and brings the phrase bespoke to a whole new level. Thank you to West Dean for a lovely stay....now to soak these hands in some magnesium!!!

Firenze - Florentine engraving that originated from the Italian Renaissance has long been a favourite of mine. Last year I had the best week being taught at Officine Nora | jewelry work/shop with Metalsmiths In Florence and Vicenza and managed to complete the ring from grain to finished piece thanks to the patience of Marghe & Monica as well as make some new fabulous friendships with other jewellers. Piano piano was my mantra as my hands were not keen to start with but a little perseverance paid off.
Im off back to Italy in October to work with 2 more fabulous teachers....this time in Milan and Florence. Excited beyond measure to learn more skills in 2 new ancient disciplines. 🔥🔨🙏🫒
