A rather late round up of September!

You know it’s been busy when the month round up is left till the middle of the following month.

With Harvest finishing early for most it meant lots of our jobs were pushed forwards and lots had to fit into a small slot.

We have completed:

- 5 different ponds for flood prevention and water storage 💦
- Land drainage installation
- Land drainage repairs
- Reed bed soak away creation and fencing
- Business park hit and miss security fencing
- Streetwork entrance way repairs
- Gate installation and Gateway repairs
- Installing new pipework and drainage
- Constructing a Pole barn with Yorkshire boarded sides and removable deck

Where did July and most of August go?!

For us it was in a flurry of sunshine, harvest dust, welding burns, smoke, creosote and diesel. What a mix! 😂

We were pretty flat out helping with harvest, keeping kit on the road, lots of field repairs, all alongside:

- Waterways works including ditches and weirs 💧
- Grant scheme fencing post and rail and FG2 completed and signed off.
- Culvert repairs 🔧
- Entranceway and Street works repairs
- Reservoir planning 💦
- Garden Fencing 🌺

With one half of the team well and truly otherwise engaged in the other job of Firefighting it has been a mad few weeks.

Hopefully with some rain 🌧️ on the horizon, we can start to bring the tempo down a notch and get stuck into some of the big projects we have on the cards.

And you only have to wait nine days before we do August’s round up! 😜

Watercourse management

A number of the flood prevention ponds we have installed have weirs associated with them, this is to assist getting the water across to them.

Water does have a mind of its own and over what was a wet winter a number of the weirs either got damaged or washed out.

Now it’s dry we have been back out to beef up and alter the weirs and ensure they are ready to divert the water into the holding ponds when there is a significant rainfall event.

Always reassuring that our efforts to ensure all the ponds are properly clay lined is paying off. Most still have a fair amount of water in them giving the local wildlife a watering point on the hot days.

Whilst basking in glorious sunshine it doesn’t seem fair to remind people of about 4 months ago. ☀️

4 months ago we were knee deep in mud wondering when the rain was going to stop and how we were going to dry everything out. ⛈️

Now we are all dried out and nearly burnt to a crisp! 🥵

We have a few spaces which have become available in August due to jobs moving later in the year. 📅

If you are ready to winter proof, or even next summer proof your set up let us know and we will help you achieve what you are looking for.

- Yards, hard standing, tracks and track systems.

- Concrete pads, footings, entranceways and streetworks.

- Drainage systems from scratch and repairs including yard and field systems.

- Civils and construction groundworks.

- Arenas, turnout pens and gallops from repairs and resurfacing to installing new.

- Ponds, pond restoration, irrigation systems, run off bunds and ponds and reservoir installations and maintenance.

- Ditching and clearing.

- All forms of Agricultural, Equestrian and Commercial Fencing.

- Workshop, on-site and emergency repairs to all agricultural machinery. On call throughout the year.

We have fully qualified and experienced operators and pride ourselves on producing work to an exceptional standard.

We are a member and recognised contractor with Association of Fencing Industries and a member the National Association of Agricultural Contractors. We work to both of these organisations code and conduct guidelines and regularly complete CPD to ensure we are current and competent.

Freelance Groundworks/Fencing Operatives & Labourers Required

Self-Employed / Ad Hoc Basis

Silver Fern Agri Ltd is a progressive and growing contractor specialising in agricultural, equestrian and industrial groundworks, civil engineering, drainage and fencing projects throughout the region.

We take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship, working efficiently and professionally, and maintaining a friendly, supportive team environment.

We are looking for reliable, hardworking individuals to join our team on a freelance/self-employed basis. The role would suit people who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in their work and understand that projects don’t always fit neatly into a 9-to-5 schedule.

What We’re Looking For

Experience in groundworks, civils, drainage, fencing, agriculture or related industries is desirable.
A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Good timekeeping, reliability and integrity.
A strong work ethic and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
What We Offer

Competitive rates of pay based on experience and qualifications.
Quality PPE and weatherproof workwear.
Training from experienced operators.
Support towards relevant qualifications and certifications.
Modern, well-maintained plant and equipment.
Varied and interesting projects.
A friendly and welcoming team environment.
About the Role

This is not a full-time position. Due to the varied nature of our workload, we require additional team members on an ad hoc basis throughout the year. We will provide as much notice as possible to help with planning and other commitments, and any agreed work will be guaranteed from our side.
