Let’s talk about the true cost of "fast furniture." 🏡♻️

We’ve all seen how tempting it is to just click 'add to basket' on a cheap new sofa or a pair of standard-sized curtains when your home needs a refresh. But the reality? Modern mass-produced items often lack durability, and the environmental cost of shipping and manufacturing is massive.

Choosing professional upholstery and curtain alterations is the ultimate life hack for your home, your wallet, and the environment. Here is why:

1. It’s Smart for Your Wallet
Good furniture has great bones. Older frames were built by traditional craftsmen using solid materials. By investing in furniture restoration or curtain resizing, you get the look and feel of a luxury, bespoke item without the premium price tag of buying brand new high-end pieces.

2. It’s Strictly Ethical & Sustainable
According to UK waste statistics, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of furniture are discarded annually. Upcycling directly supports the circular economy. It prevents perfectly good materials from going to landfill and reduces the demand for mass production, lowering your household's carbon footprint.

3. True British Craftsmanship
When you alter or reupholster, you aren't getting a cookie-cutter product out of a box. You get tailored solutions designed to fit your exact windows and living spaces perfectly, using high-quality finishes meant to last for years to come.

💚 Ready to breathe new life into your space? Don't throw away potential. Before you browse online stores, let’s see how we can transform what you already have.

✨ From Dated Velvet to Modern Masterpiece: A Family Heirloom Reborn ✨

There is nothing quite like a piece of furniture that has been a part of the family for years. But even the most loved wingback chairs need a little TLC and modernisation eventually!

We recently had the pleasure of updating this cherished family chair, taking it from its original pink velvet days into 2026 with a striking, contemporary look.

Here is how we completely transformed its design and comfort:

Modern Fabric Choice: We replaced the worn pink velvet with a beautiful, durable blue tapestry fabric. The striking geometric pattern instantly pulls the chair into the modern era while keeping its timeless character.

Sleek Design Update: To clean up the lines of the chair, we removed the traditional button-back detailing, opting instead for a tailored, smooth-back finish.

Enhanced Comfort: Looks are important, but comfort is king! We packed the seat cushion with extra premium filling, creating an extra-thick, supportive seat that is perfect for curling up in.

Investing in bespoke upholstery means you don't have to throw away pieces filled with family history. Instead, you get a completely unique, high-quality piece of furniture that fits your current style perfectly.

🪑 The Art of the Perfect Alignment

There is "upholstered," and then there is precision-engineered. We’ve just wrapped up a transformation on these eight stunning handmade dining chairs.

Each one hand made, numbered and over the 8 seats 10mm difference.

To bring them into 2026, we went with a sleek, modern aesthetic—but the real magic is in the detail.

Why Pattern Matching Matters

When you’re working with high-end textiles on a set of eight, "near enough" isn't good enough. We’ve meticulously aligned every drop-in seat so the pattern flows seamlessly across the entire suite.

Symmetry: Every chair is a mirror image of the next.
Modern Profile: Clean lines that highlight the handmade timber frames.

Durability: Modern internal fillings for a seat that feels as good as it looks.
Whether it’s a family heirloom or a bespoke handmade set like these, the right fabric and a master’s touch in alignment can completely redefine your dining space.

Quality is in the details you don’t see, as much as the ones you do.
Now with bigger premises, my workshop is located at The Old Saw Mills

Is it time to rework your favourite fabrics? 🧵

We recently had the pleasure of updating this stunning Sanderson Roman blind. By combining a classic print with a modern grey and red trim—and finishing it off with some fun red pompom edging—we’ve created a piece that feels brand new again.

The Professional Difference:
To ensure a high-end drape, we layered the fabric over a warm, thick interlining and backed it with a crisp white cotton. The entire piece was hand blind-stitched, ensuring a seamless, "clean look" finish without any industrial stitch lines showing on the face of the fabric.

Whether you have a cherished fabric that needs a second life or you're looking for a bespoke build from scratch, we can help.

Reviving a Masterpiece: 45 Years in the Making 🌿
There is something incredibly special about furniture that tells a story. These handmade chairs have been part of the family for 45 years, but after nearly half a century of love and conversation, it was finally time for a fresh look.

To bring some modern "pop" into a beautiful room, we chose a stunning woven tapestry print: Eucalyptus Leaf. 🍃

The Secret is in the Details: Why Pattern Matching Matters
When you’re working with a bold, organic print like this, you can’t just cut and staple. To do justice to handmade craftsmanship, pattern matching is everything.

Visual Harmony: Ensuring the eucalyptus vines flow seamlessly from the front of the seat to the back makes the fabric look like it was grown onto the chair, not just placed there.

The "Pro" Finish: If the pattern is off by even an inch, the eye catches the misalignment immediately. Precise matching respects the symmetry of the original woodwork.

Honoring the History: These chairs survived 45 years because they were made with care. We believe the upholstery should reflect that same level of intentionality.

The result? A vibrant, botanical breath of fresh air that honors the past while brightening up the present.

What do you think of this transformation? Are you a fan of bold tapestry prints or do you prefer solid neutrals? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Settling into the new studio!

🏠 One of my first priorities after the move was creating a dedicated space to showcase my work. I believe the "before" photos should look just as professional as the "afters," so I’ve built a staging area that feels like home.
I’ve combined a few sentimental pieces to create this look:

I upcycled an old Singer sewing table, respraying the cast iron base and pairing it with a salvaged French cupboard door from my old house in France. It makes the perfect textured surface for photography.

I’ve also included some vintage mill bobbins from back home in Huddersfield. Growing up in the heart of the textile industry, it felt only right to have a piece of that history in my workspace. 🧶

The finishing touch? A lamp I made using iconic Morris & Co. fabric.

Currently on the "stage" is a beautiful mahogany Edwardian nursing chair. It has such elegant lines but is definitely in need of a fresh soul. I can’t wait to show you the fabric I’ve chosen for this one!
What do you think of the new setup? Let me know in the comments! 👇

The Big Move: Welcome to The Studio! 🛠️✨

Coming at you with a very "real" look at the chaos! I spent the Bank Holiday weekend officially moving into my new studio workshop, and let’s just say... it’s been a whirlwind. 🌪️
This video was taken last Sunday when I was still knee-deep in boxes and bags. It’s a bit of a messy update, but I wanted to show you the "before" because the "after" is already looking so different!

What’s been happening?

Production is GO:
Despite the clutter, the tools are out and the work hasn't stopped. 🔨

New Arrivals:
Some gorgeous new furniture arrived midweek, finally giving everything a proper home.

Spring Cleaning:
It is significantly tidier now than it looks in this clip (thankfully!).

Follow the Journey
I’ve officially launched a dedicated Instagram page to document the builds, the behind-the-scenes, and the finished pieces. I’d love for you to join me over there!

Big news! 🗝️✨
They say life begins at 40, but for me, a new chapter is starting after 40 years of sewing! I never imagined that a "happy accident" of starting an upholstery and alterations venture would grow this quickly.
We’ve officially outgrown the spare room. We’ve outgrown the shipping container. And as of Friday, 3rd May, I finally have the keys to my very own premises at The Old Sawmills in Middlemarsh, Sherborne! 📍
From stitching at the kitchen table to moving into this historic creative hub, it’s been a whirlwind journey. I’m so grateful to my local clients and the motorhome and campervan businesses I’ve partnered with for making this possible.
What we do:
🧵 Bespoke Roman Blinds – Custom-made for your home.
🪑 Reupholstery Services – Giving your favourite furniture a second life.
👗 Curtain & Clothing Alterations – The perfect fit, every time.

I made piping!
Lots of piping, ... This is cushion number three of a series of three l made for a customer who was happy to let me lose on colour, style and design.
Using "Pearl the Singer" my vintage machine, I created beautiful cotton velvet piping.

Do you have a project cushion in need?
