I realised that I hadn't updated you on how the bridal hair bun wrap was progressing!
I finished all the embroidery and then made a major design change! I was going to make this a self tie wrap, but decided that some people might find tying a big bow with the original ribbons a little difficult. Everyone can tie a bow, but making it it look really fab is a challenge even for me. So I cut the ribbons off.
Replaced instead with an elasticated back which simply slips over your hair and finished with a beautiful bow fixed in position with a few stitches.
I'm really pleased with the result and how easy it'll be for a bride to fit.
Just got to wait for some good light to take final photos and, fingers crossed, daughter will be able to model it for me too 🤞

I'm loving embroidering over the water soluble stabiliser. It adds so much more stiffness to the organza making the beaded lines so much cleaner. I'll be adding the pearls next.

I've started on a new design. This is a hair bun band. It'll be embroidered with pearls and gold beads over an organza ribbon, to give it a lovely sheen, and tied with a big satin bow at the back. There's still a few details to decide on but I'm ready to go ahead and make it now.

I've been wanting to experiment with soft soldering on to silver plated materials for some time now. I have a length of cup chain which sparkles wonderful and wanted to try and create rigid shapes using the solder.
As with all new things, it was slow progress trying to work out the best temperature to make everything flow and adhere while trying not to lose the shape!
I didn't do too badly but sadly these earrings will not appear in my stores...I decided to experiment some more after taking these pictures and ended up by cooking the metal too much and lifting the lovely silver plating to leave bare brass on show. Some may say that the earrings are still beautiful but if I'm not happy the results I wouldn't expect a customer to be either.
Perhaps I'll have another experiment another time but for now.. back to more familiar techniques.
