What a difference a week makes. Not that we don’t need the rain, but hailstones, thunder and lightning too… 😩 ☔️⛈️ Rain definitely called off play for beekeeping today and 15° cooler 😱 ⚡️

Can you spot the newly marked Queen? It seemed to be a new Queen marking day today. Found and marked 7 new 2026 queens with this year’s colour, which is white. This one, I was particularly impressed with. Wall to wall brood (about to emerge new bees) on 9 out of 11 frames. Once they emerge, it will boost the colony by about 4,500 -5,000 bees per frame, so about 40,000 new bees. That’s going to be a fantastic boost of bees. Lovely calm bees too. If only they could all be like this…

Hopefully this is a good sign for the next few weeks. With rain showers promised next week and blackberries bursting into bloom, the nectar will surely start to flow. Making the bees and beekeeper happier 😊🐝

I will be taking part in this lovely, local market OneForty are amazing at supporting small local sellers and keep a stock of my local honey 🍯 in the cafe. Come along and see what other local businesses are taking part. Along with local honey, I will be selling handmade soap, lip balm and moisturising creams. Also pure beeswax candles 🕯️.

I think it’s 1 to me and 1 to the bees 🐝. Even experienced beekeepers get caught out sometimes, but two days in a row is a bit excessive! I think they are feeling a bit grumpy in the heat. Also, they are defensive of their honey as we have no nectar coming into the hives at the moment. Here’s hoping the swelling doesn’t get any worse 🤞🏻No need for Botox and fillers when you’re a beekeeper 😂

A very hot, but lovely walk around Chelsea in Bloom with .ran Amazing effort put into the floral displays. It was lovely seeing all the bees making use of the alliums…
