THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Just another two weeks to go till our final day of trading as Martin Rees Jewellers, on Saturday 27th June.

The displays are looking a bit sad now, with lots of empty spaces. But there are still some great bargains to be had, and we’ve even found the time to put a few fresh items into stock.

Gold jewellery without a Sale label, is reduced, but we don’t have time to do more labels – so just ask if you see something you like, and we will work it out. Mostly they will be at least a third off, or maybe a bit more…

We will still be buying gold and silver right up to the 27th, but only for the metal content, so any big diamond rings and the like, either come back in July, or maybe pop to Chester if it’s urgent.

We have had to stop booking repairs in now, till July when we re-open - this does include watch batteries and bracelet adjustments I’m afraid. Once H&T take over, they will be offering a much better watch repair service than we have been able to for the last few years, and of course a full range of jewellery repairs as well.

Last orders on the website will be 10am on Tuesday 23rd June

So what happens next?

This was taken right at the start of our amazing 41-year journey, 1985 when we first arrived in Chester Street. What a brilliant way to earn a living it's been!

We have just over 3 weeks to go now until we hand the shop over to its new owners. Our Sale is so amazingly successful that it's proving hard to cope with the crowds, at times - thank you so much for your patience waiting to be served, or even just to get into the shop!

We have stopped booking in repairs now, until July when the shop reopens, and we won't be selling any more gift vouchers or putting things away on deposit.

Don't worry if you do have repairs, loans or deposits with us and you can't sort it out just yet. H&T Pawnbrokers, the new owners, will take over responsibility for all those still outstanding, and the shop will be closed for only a few days, for the change-over. Meantime all will be quite safe with our usual high level of security.

The biggest (and LAST) Martin Rees Sale ever… New owners H&T Pawnbrokers taking over in July, and our staff will be staying on
As I come to the end of my 41-year journey in Chester Street, you’ve got just a few more weeks to come say goodbye to me, and grab a bargain… Now our lovely sparklers are more affordable than ever, as we look to clear some of our stock to make the hand-over to the shop’s new owners easier. There are reductions on almost all our gold jewellery, and the silver, except for Clogau and coins, has now been reduced to half price! Amazing eh!

WHEN IT’S GONE IT’S GONE!
We’re having a massive Sale at the moment, with some amazing reductions. Most of our stock is pre-owned, so if there’s something you’ve been gazing longingly at in the window for months - come grab it before it disappears!
The silver jewellery is now reduced as well as gold

Buyer beware!!
A popular TV and online shopping channel is selling these little beauties - this is the online description: “the 24K Yellow Gold Lady Fortuna Foil, a meaningful keepsake crafted in pure gold (Au999, 0.01g)…. Lightweight yet rich in meaning, this foil is more than decoration it's a legacy in precious metal.”
You can’t call it a scam - it clearly states there is only 0.01g fine gold… But how many will people realise that’s only a hundredth of a gram? Plated onto plastic. No resale value as gold, whatsoever, as you couldn’t recover such a tiny amount of gold even by smelting…
To be fair they are relatively inexpensive, priced between £19 and £50 approx on the website, and probably “reduced” well below that. So fine if you just want a decorative keepsake - but please don’t look on them as an investment!
