Some people have privately messaged me about my recent quietness on Instagram. I’ve actually been busy behind the bench for the last three weeks. This is one of the custom orders from a VVIP client, for whom I specially sourced this stone over the last few months. After discussion, she decided on a chunky ring. If you look closely at the diamond, you can see the starry sky inside the stone.

This is my first time trying snow pave on a project. Snow pave refers to the technique of placing mixed-size diamonds or gemstones tightly together in an irregular, random layout. I find the sapphires to be the most challenging because, unlike diamonds, they can have poor cuts, which makes them harder to set. That’s why this type of project really takes time to complete.

Every time I go to Taiwan for classes, I always look for my teacher’s old works and then ask him to show me how it works. I've wanted to do this for a long time, but there are some details I'm not sure about, so I went to ask my teacher. I think the most difficult part of this piece is that each section has to be cut from the inside to the outside. At the same time, the graver moves from narrow to wide. The consistency is the keep of success for this. Each section needs to be of equal size, so I have to prepare well in advance.

Rhinoceros Hornbill (also known as the Sarawak Hornbill)
This type of bird used to fly in front of my house all the time. The kids are always excited to see this type of big bird.

What’s beautiful about the hornbill is that it has an upturned yellowish-orange structure on its casque and an ivory-colored beak. The body color is mainly black. Normally, you see this type of bird in Brunei and the eastern side of Malaysia.
