A question that often comes up is why silver changes colour over time.

Silver is a responsive material — it reacts to its environment. When exposed to sulfur compounds in the air, its surface can gradually tarnish. This is a completely natural process, not a flaw in the material or a sign of declining quality.

How quickly this happens depends on many factors: our skin, environmental conditions, humidity, how often we wear the piece, and how we store it when it’s not being worn. Cosmetics and perfumes can also affect it. Sulfur-rich thermal waters can accelerate the process considerably, so it’s best to remove silver jewellery before bathing.

The good news is that the change isn’t permanent: with proper cleaning, silver can regain its original lustre. For heavier tarnishing, it’s best to have the piece professionally cleaned or feel free to ask us about the best way to clean your particular piece.
