Blade Show Texas

What a weekend. (my heads still pounding)

Blade Show Texas was on another level. The standard, the atmosphere, the people it is hard to beat. A big thank you too fantastic show.

Great to catch up with friends, meet new makers, and spend time talking through the craft. That kind of environment sharpens you quickly. You see what is out there and it pushes you to step up.

I have come home with a clear head and a lot of fire. The focus now is everything ahead, especially the Journeyman Smith challenge.

Big work coming.

Blade Show Texas.

This was one of the highlights of the weekend.
Met this young fella and his dad again this year. They bought a knife from me last year, so it meant a lot to see them come back and find me.
We had a great chat and it’s moments like this that stay with you.
It’s not just about making knives. It’s about the people, the connections, and seeing the work appreciated.
I really appreciate the support. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

WHAT A JOURNEY

Nick travelled from the United States to Kilkenny to take part in the Patrick Joseph Ultimate Damascus Knife Making Experience.
Starting with raw steel in the forge, he spent the week forging, grinding and finishing this stunning Damascus Santoku, fitted with a beautiful Irish Yew and Walnut handle.
A knife made entirely with his own hands.
To celebrate the finished blade we visited The Devils Menu, where award winning chef christened the knife with an exceptional five course meal.
An incredible week of fire, steel and craft.
People travel from around the world to do this.

A proper gentleman’s carry.

This swayback slipjoint is dressed in rich snakewood, its deep red tones and wild figuring catching the light with every turn. No two pieces of this timber are ever the same. Nature does the patterning, I just frame it.
The blade is forged in high carbon 1095, a steel I love for its edge performance and honest character. It takes a razor edge, develops a beautiful working patina over time, and rewards the owner who appreciates tradition.

Brushed bolsters. Clean lines. Walk and talk just right.
No gimmicks. No shortcuts. Just craftsmanship.

Mosaic Damascus reveals the internal structure of the steel itself.

This blade was forged from a hand built mosaic billet, engineered before the blade shape existed.

The dark cross section at the base shows the origin of the billet. As it is drawn out, the internal geometry flows through the blade.
High carbon steels darken. Nickel rich steels remain bright.

Nothing is applied. The pattern is permanent.
Each piece is unrepeatable.
