朱色 [shu-iro] vermillion color that is often seen at Japanese Shinto shrines. It represents fire, the sun, and life, and believed to protect against evil and negative energy. It was originally made from cinnabar, a toxic mineral, and was used to paint wooden structures for preservation and for its naturally beautiful color.
