Leap- this range of designer jewellery is different to most found in Sri Lanka, as it tells a story of the materials used, beauty and uniqueness of the individual piece. most of the designs are based on the natural shape and structure of the materials used (Gem, crystals, shell, corral, glass or wood) to bring out the essence of the material and the metal(mostly silver, but white and yellow gold a
s well) is used to create an functional bond between the main materials. To me there is beauty in everything that nature has created and had this urge to share that with the people around me and the way I knew how to was to design and create pieces of jewellery with the things that was given less importance like “semi- precious gems and materials“ don’t get me wrong, I love the brilliance of a well cut diamond to the most exquisite range of colour that’s found in sapphires, but to me it was like fighting for the underdog in gems, so Ii choose to work with stones that had character in their flaws and funny shapes and tried hard to maintain a balance by not imposing too much on the nature of the material. Am a frog lover and I always wanted to have a frog as a logo, and unlike most animals that jump around or hop or pounce around the frog leaps! it leaps to avoid predator’s, to catch food and reach higher ground, so by using materials that are taken for granted or shoved aside as for numerous reasons I like to think I give it just that little bit of creative touch to help it leap to the level it deserves. Also by making used of discarded or re-cycling materials and giving it added value, I hope will stop or at least reduce the amount of mining that goes on around the earth and causing so much of damage. So I hope LEAP will be able to help nature with its positive action towards lessening the raping of the earth and it’s natural treasures.
