King Seiko was named to come second. Grand Seiko got “the highest peak.” This one got ranked just below the throne. Daini Seikosha spent the next sixty years disagreeing with that ranking.

Look at the dial finishing. It catches light the same way a Grand Seiko does, because the same company obsession built both. The difference in price was never a difference in care.

The sharp lugs, the mirror-polished case flanks, that’s Zaratsu polishing. Distortion-free flat surfaces that hold light like still water. Seiko was doing this while half of Switzerland was still hiding finishing under the caseback.

“King Seiko. Diashock. 26 Jewels.” A shock-protection system, chronometer-level ambition, and the dial that says everything by saying almost nothing.

Full set. Clean box. Pristine papers. Sellers know that buyers pay more for the complete package — which is exactly why it gets fabricated.

The habit that protects you: keep everything together from day one, and demand the same story from whoever you’re buying from.

A watch without a history isn’t a deal. It’s a risk.

Anyone serious about pre-owned watches knows the difference. The seller should know the watch’s history — who owned it, where it was serviced, why it’s being sold.

If they can’t answer that, the full set is decoration.

Keep everything. Ask everything.

WHAT EVEN IS A WATCH? — Ep. 12

Most watches put lume on the hands so you can read the time in the dark. Ming designed the 22.01 so that darkness is when it actually makes sense.

That blue glow isn’t just functional. It completely changes what you’re looking at. In daylight it’s a considered, minimal dial. At night it becomes something else entirely. Two watches for the price of one, except neither of them feels like a compromise.

Hot take. The Ming 22.01 is more interesting than half the Swiss watches people spend three times the money on.

A Malaysian independent. Titanium case. A tri-compax dial layout that somehow manages to feel completely new. The kind of watch that makes you question why you were ever loyal to a name instead of a idea.

Most people haven’t heard of Ming. The ones who have don’t shut up about it. There’s a reason for both.

The watch world has a gatekeeping problem. You’re only supposed to care about certain names, certain countries, certain price points. Ming didn’t get that memo and honestly neither did we.

The Furlan Marri Honey Blue Flyback. Deep blue sandwich dial. 23K yellow gold PVD hands. A pulsometer scale that doctors used to measure heart rate. A flyback chronograph with a column wheel. 300 pieces total.

Two guys from Geneva got tired of Swiss watchmaking feeling like a closed club. So they built something that earns its place on the wrist without needing a century of history behind it.

That’s the thing about microbrands people get wrong. Supporting them isn’t a compromise. It’s actually how the next great watchmaking names get born. The brands everyone loves now were once the ones nobody had heard of.
