LYDIA: THE WOMAN WHOSE HEART GOD OPENED 💜
There was a woman in the Bible named Lydia.
She was from Thyatira and lived in Philippi. She was a businesswoman, a seller of purple cloth, and a woman of influence.
One Sabbath, Lydia went to a place by the river where women had gathered to pray.
Paul began speaking to them about Jesus.
And then the Bible says something beautiful:
“The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.”
Acts 16:14
Think about that.
Paul preached, but God opened her heart.
Lydia heard the message and believed.
She and her household were baptized, and immediately, her faith produced action.
She opened her home to Paul and his companions.
The same woman whose heart God opened became the woman who opened her home.
And I think there is something so beautiful about that.
God opened her heart, and she opened what was in her hands.
Her home.
Her resources.
Her influence.
Her hospitality.
Lydia didn’t just encounter God and keep the encounter to herself.
Her encounter affected the people around her.
Her home became a place where believers gathered, and she became part of the story of the early church in Philippi.
And this reminds me of something:
You don’t have to become someone else for God to use you.
Lydia was a businesswoman.
She had responsibilities.
She had resources.
She had a household.
And God used exactly what she already had.
Maybe you’re wondering what God can do with your life.
Maybe you think you need more before you can be useful to Him.
More money.
More influence.
More knowledge.
More opportunities.
But perhaps the first thing you need is not more.
Perhaps you need what Lydia had:
An open heart.
Because when God opens your heart, He can show you what to do with what is already in your hands. 🤍
Lord, open my heart to You, and teach me how to use everything You’ve placed in my hands for Your glory. Amen. 🕊️
