Palmerston North! Do better!! This is so sickening, its 2023 and black people are still getting racially targeted here in New Zealand!

29/03/2022

Otago Girls' High School so the incident with hoda, the Muslim girl that got attacked is not a reflection of your school….I beg to differ when other students displaying racism, whilst in uniform might I add, seems to be more then a one off incident! Just saying!!! The girl is saying “Chinese n@$%ers” “black c* ” and other slurs. Is this also going to fall on deaf ears and hushed like hoda’s incident? Silencing victims seems to be your ammo!!!

So many voices coming out saying what I have been saying all along. This is Ava Jack, she shared this video on TikTok…the amount of islanders and Māoris commenting on it gaslighting her comparing it to their struggles with racism here.

It’s not a competition! Every racial group have their own societal issues, but what gets me is when they scream racism yet do it to others, just doesn’t sit right with me.

What a beautiful write up!!! As you all know, Sahara has had her fair share of being called the “n” word by her peers and it has mainly been from Māori and Pacific Islanders!! Still to this day, they call her it or say it around her just to get a reaction…DJ Sirvere you have a platform where you can make a difference! It’s truely sad that you chose to have a cry about Mazbou Q because you got called out liking a racist comment. Just remember, your own people faced and still face discrimination, can you not see how your actions would hurt another? Especially because of the platform that you have?!? As a pacific island mother to an African Polynesian, I’m embarrassed that in my own community, the ones that cry discrimination and racism, can also do to others what has been done to them!

As for Mareko and Ladi6 saying hip hop belongs to no one, best believe it came from black people! How would you feel if someone (from another culture) appropriated island music and said it doesn’t belong to anyone! Hip hop was birthed by black people and forever and will be, black culture!! Learn to pay homage to the ones that created it so you could have a career!!!

A conversation on social media has sparked a discussion about anti-Blackness, New Zealand hip hop and appropriation. Writer Kristian Fanene Schmidt, who is Samoan, shares his opinion on Aotearoa’s Māori and Pasifika hip hop community.

Coming to the end of Africa week.….these two beauties connected through this very page and formed a beautiful friendship! Beautiful malia is African American and pakeha and is one talented beauty, who has also been doing some awesome work!! watch out for these two beauties in the future!!

Sahara has been fortunate enough to connect with so many beautiful people along this journey….we appreciate all the opportunities and support she gets from others supporting her to take leadership in projects coming up! She is so grateful to you all!

As the African Youth Ambassador for Black Creatives Aotearoa she was apart of discussion with other fellow Africans across nz on The blackhouse, and one issue she took away from that meeting is VISIBILITY! Something Sahara never got to see growing up was African visibility included in cultural festivals, sports and other community events. So we have some great projects coming up which will take a bit of time with some great people in BCA.

First, Africa week, now time to take over the world!!! Muahahahaha lol
