‘Angel Wings’
By Rhiannon Mackintosh
45x45cm
Acrylic on Canvas
This painting unfolded intuitively, emerging alongside the first buds of spring. It brings together spiritual symbols of love, lineage, and memory. In Māori tradition, the pīwakawaka(fantail) is recognized as a messenger from the spirit world, arriving to offer protection, love, or gentle guidance from those who have passed. Here, it rests among the angel wing begonias—a tender tribute to my maternal grandmother, who lovingly cultivated these plants and held her own profound connection to the angels. This piece captures a sacred moment of rebirth, where family, memory, and the unseen world gently intertwine. Proving that love and family always find a way to visit us.
