Here’s my main creative secret 🤫

(If you landed here by accident - hey hi, I’m Yulia. I’m an artist, born in Tashkent and raised - let’s put it in a poetically sophisticated way - in the chaos and poetry of post-Soviet Central Asia. I’ve lived in Russia, which also shaped me, and for the past 15+ years, Lima, Peru has been my home. It took me 13 years, a divorce, refugee status, and a pandemic to get my papers in order - so technically, I’ve been Peruvian since 2021. Over the years, I’ve held exhibitions in Saint Petersburg, Lima, New York, Washington D.C., Mar del Plata, and Nagano, taught countless watercolor workshops, and painted my way through everything life threw at me.)

But back to the secret.

The real shift happens when I stop chasing productivity and start listening.
When I stop forcing answers and start noticing rhythms- in light, in silence, in the way color bleeds on paper.

Sometimes I need to vanish for a while. Not post, not perform, not explain.
I move things around in the studio. I walk. I write things I don’t plan to show anyone.
I let the noise settle.

And then, quietly, something begins to pulse.
Not always an idea—sometimes just a thread, a texture, a mood.
But I follow it.

I believe in letting life stew before turning it into something.
In the art of slow witnessing.
In building a visual language out of the things I’ve endured, dreamt, and lost—and found again.

And I believe that art, when honest, always finds its own voice.
Even if you disappear for a while. Even if you come back changed.

Only then, my ideas return—like birds landing on my hand.
Or like the shimmering dust flakes in the ray of sunlight ✨
