The Baguio City Council has approved the request of the Baguio Arts and Crafts Collective, Inc. (BACCI) and the Mobile-Oriented Valuable Entrepreneurship (MOVE) to stage a series of events under the banner of "District Ocho 2600: Pop-Up Food Street and Creative Nook Launch."

The city council, during its regular session on January 22, 2024, passed a resolution authorizing the conduct of the said event from January 22 to March 3, 2024 in various locations in different areas of District 8 with main events at barangay Camdas.

Arvin Molintas, MOVE President and BACCI Board of Director, said their project dubbed as "Project 2600; A Creative Decentralization” is their team’s tangible action and collective response in helping the City realize its vision of achieving a β€œLivable, Inclusive, and Creative City.”

β€œThis project primarily aims to make the people understand the importance of embracing Baguio as the 1st UNESCO Creative City in the Philippines and how it adds value to our creative economic undertakings plus creating livelihood opportunities for all,” Molintas added.

This project promises a number of benefits for residents in the barangays under District 8. The activities include a pop-up food street and a series of livelihood seminars and workshops at the barangays, among others. These activities are expected to establish potential venues for other creative events in the future.

Catherine Gonzales, MOVE Executive Director, said the staging of this project allows the locals to engage in a diverse range of events, workshops, and seminars, all from the comfort of their own community, without the need to go to the central business district.

β€œThe Creative Decentralization is a way for MOVE to bring the experience closer to the local residents of Baguio. It has been a common plight of the locals to feel like they are trapped in their homes to give way to the tourists and to avoid the traffic,” Gonzales stated.

In alignment with the city's dedication to preserving its designation as a Creative City for Arts and Crafts bestowed by UNESCO, this imaginative initiative, meticulously crafted by BACCI and MOVE, reflects a steadfast commitment to nurturing creativity and cultural expression.

This venture is in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry-Baguio Benguet, Crafter’s Association, Pasakalye Artist Group, independent artists/creatives, and creative entrepreneurs.

BACCI and MOVE commit to continue with their crusade in providing assistance for the livelihood programs of organized groups, including women, men, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and senior citizens within District 8 through creative undertakings. -Jordan G. Habbiling
