What's in the Name?
“Mapala” is derived from the Philippine root word "pala" which means, benefit or blessing. MAPALA is also an acronym for May Pag-papala which literally means, "With Blessings." It was chosen as the official name of the organization because it represents several things. First, majority of the core members of this group hailed from the Philippines who felt that they benefitted from the many opportunities laid before them by the United States of America. Second, the members believe that if they have talents and abilities, they directly benefitted these from above, therefore, they hope that their efforts to do good to others will also be blessed. Third, individuals and communities will benefit from the services of the organization. “International” because membership may be of people from the different parts of the world. What's in the Logo?
“Giving hands” in hibiscus. Hands symbolize action, effort, and cooperation. “Giving hands” then, mean the hands that provide opportunities, love and care to others. Hibiscus is Hawaii’s State Flower. Using hibiscus in the logo signifies that the organization is based in Hawaii. Circle represents connection, community, wholeness, endurance, and perfection. Therefore, through the efforts of the members of this organization, its aims will be made perfect. The reproductive portion of the hibiscus is reaching outside the boundary of the circle. This is because the organization intends to flourish not just in Hawaii but will also set out to define the world. What's in the Colors? Silver was chosen because it connotes glamour, modernity, and richness. While pink, means sweet love and happiness. When put together, pink and silver represent elegant demonstration of kindness.
