One look can tell the story.
Gemstones set in rings or other jewelry can be difficult to examine using classical gemological instruments because access to the stone is limited.
Today, however, was different.
A silver ring with a red gemstone arrived for testing. As soon as I examined it under the microscope and exposed it to ultraviolet (UV) light, distinct curved growth lines became visible. That single observation immediately suggested it was a synthetic ruby.
Not every identification is easy—but sometimes one clear gemological feature tells the whole story.
