‘Nayantara’ ~ this Keshi pearl necklace (Keshi + freshwater pearls) is named after the star of my eyes. People say children know the value of their parents only when they grow up and become a parent themselves. I’d say a mother truly knows her own value and role as a mother when the child leaves home. Ever since my daughter left for college, I as a mother feel redundant. I’ll never cease to be a mother, but a part of me went with her and continues to live with her. Here’s to all empty nesters who carry on with their lives, holding on to precious memories of yesteryears with their little ones.

‘Nayantara’ - part perfect, part imperfect, with a heart of gold.

My Natantara, waiting to hug you ♥️.

I was set to make a Chrysoprase necklace and then Ma Lakshmi appeared on Akshaya Tritiya:). I ended up making both, the Chrysoprase and this beautiful two strand necklace. The pink in the rose quartz is very light. It’s more of a whitish pink, paired with my favourite pearls.

So then, here is ‘Ishwari’, a two strand rose quartz and pearl necklace with Ma Lakshmi motifs set in sterling silver. Hope you like it :).

I’m making these pieces because I like nothing more than to create. In the process if I’m able to sell some locally in Dubai, it’s great. However I’m unable to ship them internationally 🙏🏼.

In which Yin and Yang come together to create a perfect necklace. Two beautiful strands of rutilated black and white quartz come together featuring hints of silver and black Spinel . They say when there is balance between yin and yang there is divine harmony 🤍 - this necklace does give a very wholesome, balanced vibe, yes?

Making a necklace a day or every few days reminds me of my time in Sydney, when Nine by Thirty was newly launched. I would make a couple of pieces in a week, sell them over the next and put the money back into buying more supplies. I liked that pace. I like this place I’m in now, just like those days. I have the time to do all the little things I want to do without worrying about sales, shows, orders, despatch etc. I love that this pace gives me the space and time to just be.

This silver pendant has been with me for along while - today felt just right to work on it. What do you think?

I’m going to name this piece after my peaceful days - Sukoon’ :).

‘Q for Queen’

I was in kindergarten when a children’s programme was organised - a phonetic alphabet parade. Back in the day everything was handmade /tailor made. My mother being the magician she is, made me a stunner of a red chiffon tiered, frilly-flowy maxi dress with gold trimmings. I was given a ‘crown’ wnd was asked to walk slowly and speak into the mike what I was . Alas! The words wouldn’t come 😂 and that became a joke into my adult years and a reaction I had through out my childhood when on stage - ‘stage fear’ was very much a part of my growing up years (that didn’t stop me from participating 😬) .
So here’s a gentle hug to my little self. You were Q for Queen then, Q for Queen now too 😄🤗🥰.

I have very bravely shared the Q for Queen image of me (which dad very sweetly dug up for me) ….do you see the pearl necklace ? :))

Presenting, ‘Q for Queen’ for all you Queens out there 👑 .

My earliest memories of pearl necklaces were that of my mother’s. Mother stored her gorgeous multi strand rice pearl necklaces in rich blue velvet boxes which were kept away in the locker inside our ‘Godrej’.
She rarely wore gold, but pearls were a big part of her. I remember going pearl shopping with her to Secunderabad’s Jagdamba pearls. My eyes would invariably be set on some tacky looking glittering necklace and not the pearls. As a 13 year old I looked at pearls with disdain. I would equate pearls with ‘old people’ :) . What I would give today to own a single strand of pearl from those years - for you don’t get the same quality and price any more.

You cannot go wrong with a string of pearls worn with a chiffon saree, no?

This necklace is named ‘Jijabai’ after a friend who loves pearls and gold - she is a pearl herself and has a heart of gold and she was constantly on my mind while stringing this.

Oldie and Goldie were the first pets we had after marriage. They were a pair of Goldfish. They used to be hyper excited around mealtime and each time we returned home from work they came to the edge of the fishbowl dashed about demanding food. It broke my heart to lose them in a few months - I was young and much like Jenny Grogan (Marley and Me), thought I was incapable of taking care of living things (I had also killed several plants in quick succession).

This Turquoise necklace with Karen Thai fish beads remind me of a time that was so full of promise and hope. A time when I thought losing goldfish was earth shattering. A time when everything was new, sunshiny and bright. This necklace here is me blowing gentle kisses to my early years - to the whimsy, sensitive woman that I was and to Oldie and Goldie, my first pets.

Wood always reminds me of the gorgeous humongous bed in my grandmother’s room in Cuttack. It was so high that as a child I needed a stool or someone to help me up. In summers I would hide underneath that roomy bed and listen to my mother and grandmother talking. It was a room of my own where imagination took flight. My grandmother passed away a little over a year ago but sometimes I forget it and ask ma if she had called her and ma says she sometimes forgets. Love lives on in strange ways…

I’m obsessed with multiple charm necklaces. I now live in a country where most women wear minimal, fine jewellery - jewellery that everyone wears or aspires to. Some are real and others remakes of the original. In a sea of gold and beautiful fine jewellery, my chunky silver perhaps looks a bit antiquated. But then, I love all things old, broken, rustic and dated. Like my grandmother’s bed.

‘A room of my own’ is made with wooden beads and sterling silver. It’s as light as those carefree childhood summer days in spent in Cuttack under an enormous bed.

Hope you all like it.
