Nine By Thirty A silver-enthusiast's dream come true. Nine by Thirty is a jewelry store that serendipitously came into being one fine day in Sydney.

Aparna continues to curate her virtual store from Singapore, where she moved with her family in 2012. Nine by Thirty sells silver and beads/gem based jewelry online and through local exhibitions and open houses. Online sale: Every month or once in 2 months we launch a new collection online. The date and time of the launch is always shared on the page a week or two in advance. To get this update, please like this page and come back often to check :). On the day of the sale, pictures of the new collection are uploaded with codes mentioned under them. Interested buyers need to email aparna ([email protected]) requesting the price list. The list is sent out on a first -email -received -first -serve- basis. Whoever books a piece first gets it (subject to depositing the price amount within 2 days). Pictures of a collection get deleted as and when they get sold. Nine by Thirty is managed by a one woman army. It is practically impossible for Aparna to respond to every query posted as comments and messages. The best way to reach her would be via email. Nine by Thirty sources it's silver from various artisans, stores, silversmiths and suppliers across the globe. The silver you see on our site is NOT designed by Aparna (unless mentioned otherwise). They are picked on a single piece basis and put together and strung by Aparna and presented to you. Orders for another piece are not taken unless specified under the product . Price: Price ranges from SGD65-SGD600. Payment: Via Paypal / bank transfer / Western Union/ Cheque/Cash. Custom orders : Custom orders will be taken by Aparna only if you trust her sense of design. Asking her to tailor make something (simply put- backseat driving), is not her thing :-). Delivery: We ship internationally and use SINGPOST for the same. The delivery time is usually 2 -2.5 weeks. This is the cheapest and most trusted method of shipping, we have experienced. buyers in UK are sometimes required to pay duty as do many other countries (We usually share these specifications with the buyer before shipping). Exchange: Once sold, we do not exchange or refund unless there is a serious damage to the product which might have occurred during shipping. Buyers must notify about the damage within 2-3 days of receiving the parcel.

~ Anupreeta ~

Anupreeta is a series of four necklaces, each slightly different, but all channeling the same spirit. They are named after my college roommate , dear friend and once upon a time, my partner-in-crime in a rather grand dream of opening a little silver boutique together. The boutique never happened because life as it tends to, had other plans.

Today, after years and miles between us, she is visiting me from Goa and has very graciously agreed to be my model. She is every bit the Anupreeta I remember: stunning, free-spirited, very wild at heart and entirely her own person.

The necklaces are strung with traditional dholki beads — generously sized silver beads that look substantial but are wonderfully light to wear. Their secret is a hard wax or lac core, covered in a fine film of silver, giving you the look and feel of a large silver bead without the weight of solid silver.

Each of the four necklaces has its own little personality, but they all carry the same generous, slightly old-world exuberance that I love about dholkis. They have presence without being heavy, and a certain easy glamour that doesn’t need much else around it.

The silver boutique we once dreamed up never opened, but the friendship and our love for silver has endured quite beautifully.
Some dreams change shape. Some friendships don’t.

Durga Puja in Calcutta is an emotion. It didn’t make it to UNESCO’s *Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity* for nothing. And if you are a culture vulture, it is an experience you really ought to indulge in at least once in your lifetime.

When you do decide to land in Calcutta during Pujo, look around.

You’ll see why I named this necklace ‘Khorkhori Janala’ or ‘Louvred Windows’ .

There is something rather endearing about the name itself. ‘Khar-khar’ / ‘khad-khad’ the wonderfully familiar and nostalgic sound of these old wooden shutters being jimmied open with a little wooden slat is what gave these windows its name. A feature of Calcutta’s heritage colonial architecture, these windows often come in the most glorious shades of emerald, turquoise and teal, set against old madder-red brick walls. It is a combination that will find its way into that permanent little Calcutta memories folder in your head.

And so, our official Pujo travel advice is as follows: pack a few cottons, some NBTs, a comfortable pair of shoes, sunnies, sunscreen and a camera. Head to the airport two weeks from now. Take a friend along — because really, what is Pujo without someone to share a plate of biriyani, an alur chop, fish fry or a particularly unnecessary amount of moghlai with? Pujo is best savoured with someone special. ♥️

And while you’re there, keep an eye out for those khorkhori janala. 😘♥️

I named her Suchitra, after the inimitable Suchitra Sen, because this necklace has that same old-world magic about it and of all the yesteryear heroines, she was mine (and everyone’s 😬) favourite!

Soft green Aventurine and misty grey Labradorite come together in a dreamy, retro palette . Perfect with a light Dhakai, soft Chanderi, or a timeless chiffon. Some things like old-world glamour and chiffon are forever in fashion.

There is something about autumn that is impossible to explain without flowers.

Shiuli in the early morning, genda, dahlias, lotuses and chrysanthemums; the scent of incense, the first hint of cooler air, and that unmistakable feeling that Durga Puja is almost here.

These six pieces are my little ode to that season—named for flowers that belong to Sharad, to Pujo, to October, and to the memories that somehow always return at this time of year.

‘Dhaki | ঢাকি ‘

In anticipation of Durga’s arrival I can hear the distant beats of Dhaak , smell the faint scent of Shiuli and have a heart beating with childlike joy! Ma asche 🌺♥️.

‘Dhaki’ (Bangla for the drummers who beat the ‘Dhak’ during Durga Pujo), is my first offering to the Autumnal festival. The idea of using silk string was to keep the focus on the stunner of a pendant made up of Rajasthani amulets made in pure 92.5 silver. It’s a quirky statement piece with a contemporary appeal .

Being Odia, I have a particular fondness for Odisha’s silver heritage. Cuttack’s Tarakashi (silver filigree) is one of Odisha’s most celebrated crafts, known for the painstaking work of shaping and joining fine silver.

This handmade articulated fish, is widely called as ‘Ganjam Fish’ ( made in Bellaguntha, Ganjam district) and it beautifully combines Bellaguntha and Cuttack’s excellent craftsmanship .

Made from multiple little sections joined together, the fish has a wonderful little movement to it. Since this one is a smaller fish (about 8 cms ) only the bottom part is articulated. From what I’ve seen, the larger the fish, the more movement and flexibility it has.

Interestingly, articulated silver fish are not unique to India either. Similar forms have been made in parts of Europe, making this a rather charming example of a craft idea that has travelled across cultures.

The necklace is available in 925 sterling silver or 925 sterling silver with gold plating, both paired with a 28-inch 925 silver rope chain.

I have only a limited number of pieces. The pendant is not available separately.

Mallige / Mogra /Jasmine gajra was an integral part of my growing up years. To watch women freshen up every evening, neatly comb their hair and wear a string of freshly strung gajra which they’d have skilfully knotted, is a core childhood memory. I never had long enough hair as a kid so up they went like a hairband across my head held together with two hair clips.. I bet I looked every bit ridiculous. But what’s a childhood without embarrassing fashion choices carried out with the confidence of a Paris runway model ?!

This Moonstone and Turquoise pendant necklace is named after that core memory - doesn’t it remind you of a string of Mallige ?
