Today, we’re exploring Faik Pasha Hotel, a located in Çukurcuma, Istanbul, among antique shops and housed in buildings dating back to the 1800s.

This is the most intriguing hotel in Çukurcuma, one of Istanbul’s most charming neighborhoods, and it also has a lovely little cafe.

Located just a 4-minute walk from the heart of Beyoğlu, Istiklal Street, and a 7-minute walk from Taksim Square, this nostalgic gem in Çukurcuma is close to everything. Galata Tower, ferry ports, and Şişhane Metro Station are all within 1 km of the hotel.

From here, you can easily walk to numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, and antique/vintage shops. I started with the location because it’s truly in one of the best spots in Istanbul.

The owner, Ms. Meral, has decorated the hotel and cafe so elegantly, paying attention to every detail to preserve the spirit of Old Istanbul. Staying here feels like a journey back in time or visiting an art gallery.

🏠 The furniture inside the hotel has been collected over the years from antique shops, considering the lives of the street’s past residents. The rugs are handmade, making you feel as if you’ve entered the home of a great-grandparent who has lived in Istanbul for five or six generations.

I’m in the Western Black Sea region and have arrived at in Bartın, Turkiye. Although I’m quite used to the stories of historic mansions in Istanbul, the warm energy and storied past of this wooden mansion in the center of Bartın excites me.

It is admirable that two cousins have transformed a 115-year-old mansion inherited from their grandmother into a concept hotel through meticulous restoration, and this care is evident in every detail. No matter which of the six rooms you choose at Kaf Konak, you have a story to tell about the tranquility.

🏠 I can’t say these six rooms are very spacious, ranging from 14 to 23 square meters. But I liked the wooden-heavy room decor, befitting a historic mansion, and their efficient use of space. Their largest room is aptly named ‘Başoda’.
👨‍🍳 The hotel also has Rukiye Restaurant, and its menu is as carefully prepared as the rooms. Keep this place in mind when thinking of local cuisine. The most prominent dishes on the menu are rice-filled mantı, pumpum soup, ispıt, and eared pasta.

🏊‍♀️ The Western Black Sea is actually the calmest part of the otherwise rough Black Sea. The scorching heat of the climate crisis doesn’t really reach here. If it’s summer, there are many natural beaches in Bartın where you can swim, the closest being 16 km away. , , , , ... But be careful as there can be rip currents.

🌲 I can put Küre Mountains National Park at the top of nature lovers’ routes. The lush green forest show is unique to the Black Sea; stroll on its cool paths. Add Uluyayla and Gölderesi waterfalls to your routes. Güzelcehisar Basalt Columns are one of the most photogenic spots here. They formed over 80 million years and such old, well-preserved formations are rare in the world. Boat tours on the Bartın River are very popular for exploring the surroundings. Don’t say you didn’t have time to visit Amasra Museum; the Water Nymph statue found in Amasra is in this museum.
