For our last walk through the HISTORY OF JEWELRY let's chat about the magnificent, impressive size & ornamentation form our post two weeks ago. Here we have a Stomacher from the 17th century (1600's). Isn't this gorgeous?
Looks so small, right? is it a brooch? Nope!
It was created in spain and spread throughout Europe. This would have covered the front of a woman's entire bodice (front of the dress from her chest to her waist) One can imagine how heavy this would be on top of all the weighty fabric they wore., but hey, you'd know her high up status by the filigree and jewels.
